It only covers solid metal parts. They wouldn't replace my 3/8" ratchet because it was the mechanism that was broken, but I got a new allen key bit for it when it snapped.

The little ballbearing thingy went in one of Dans...took it over to Halfords, they didn't have one...so opened a set and took the right one out of that.
Fab service Oh and Squirrel...they gave Stretchie a trade card......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Not referring to Halfords specifically but the ratchet machanism is a consumable part, as such good quality tool manufacturers offer repair parts to replace the wearing parts of ratchet handles, (not spanners, but the principle is identical), and wouldn't ordinarily replace a tool under warranty if the ratchet mechanism were worn.

Has the ratchet always slipped or has it recently started happening? If it has always slipped then under the sale of goods act you are entitled to a replacement or a refund as the item is not fit for purpose.
Of course it also depends on how long ago "a while back" is, but there must be a reasonable period of time/usage before something fails due to wear and tear which correct if I'm wrong is what the lifetime guarantee does not cover?
