Same as any other used bike TBH.

Did they do a competent job, have they updated the V5, is it out of a nicked bike, are you poncy about resale value etc.

Would it reduce the resale value? If by how much roughly?

How long's a piece of string? More information required.

I personally wouldn't give a damn because it might reduce the resale value by the price of 4 rizla papers... but I don't get rid of bikes until they don't work anymore.

Ok, well as you may or may not know the camc hain sanpped on my K12r, it's cheaper to change the engine, my local garage have sourced one with verfied mileage, warrenty and they'll do all the servicing and cam chain upgrade before putting it in plus s stress test, then they'll service it again withint he first 500 miles, but I want to get rid as it's left a sour tasteh in my mouth, wanted to sell it for £4500 or there abouts so i can pay off the £1700 to repair it giving me about £3000 to buy another bike, like a Falco, Firestorm, Sprint RS possibly SV1000, FZ1 fazer or Z1000?

Well "I'm sick of this explody germanic bag of unreliability" isn't really the best sales line

Stick it up for sale and see what happens, the k12s do seem to fetch money way above their value but I've never seen one go with an engine swap. Might not hurt it too much if you keep a good paper trail and it's not just a mysteriously wrong engine number.

If the garage is doing the work, and you want shot anyway, what would they give you for the bike as is? It might be something they could sell on easily?

If there are lots about and the typical owner is very fussy, then it could reduce the resale by quite a bit. I have a number of motorbikes without original engines, but I've paid either a low price for the bike, or done the swap once owning the bike, thus paying a low price in the first place.

If the engine is swapped over and the V5 updated, how would anyone know?

Some makers serial numbers can tell year of manufacture and/or exact model, thus if they're not the same year or model it's a giveaway, even if the parts are otherwise identical. Some bikes have engine numbers that tally with the frame number, thus someone clued might be able to tell.
I haven't the first clue about BMW numbers - it may or may not be obvious, but of course I'm sure everyone on here is completely honest and wouldn't keep that info from a prospective buyer anyway.

On the same subject, does anybody want my old curvy with a low(ish) mileage engine in it to replace the knackered one?
