Lightbulb Ponderisms

Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak!

Any time you have a 50:50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% chance you'll get it wrong.

The things that come to those who wait, are the things left by those who got there first.

If you kill one bird with two stones you've still done pretty well, unless it was tied up or the stones were really fecking big.

Toast always lands butter side down.

Cats always land feet first.

If you sellotape a piece of buttered toast to a cat's back butter side up then throw the cat out of the window, when they get to a few inches above the ground they will spin over and over and never land.

No the buttered toast is not strong enough to counteract the turning force of the cat.

A few years ago I was involved in the testing of this theory. We experimented with different base breads and spread to find the best one that will fall spread-side down. Nutella, jam, and lime chutney were all used on a variety of bread from the humble thick cut white to the tick sliced Rye loaf.

Cats and the height to drop them from where also looked at. This was one of the most costly and frankly dangerous parts of the experiment. I'm thankful I no longer need to carry a fully grown male Lion up 12 flights of stairs again.

But what is usually left unconsidered in this experiment is the surface to which you are to drop the buttered breaded feline. We found the key was the potential stain factor of the spread were it to hit the floor vs. the turning force of the cat landing on its feet.

After 5 months of testing and experimentation we presented our findings to the scientific community. In summary what is needed is a fully grown female tabby cat, dropped from the 7th floor building window with a lightly toasted piece of white bread strapped to its back spread with chicken tikka masala paste over a white shagpile rug. If these conditions are met the cat will stay spinning 12 inches off of the ground rotating in a state of perpetual motion unable to land either feet or spread first.

This gave us the basis for a monorail system. However our funding was cut in the credit crunch and there has been no appetite since to carry on the research to find a viable way of commercially exploiting the idea.

Think you both missed the point of the thread, see line 1 of the OP!
