Default 400 red line in top

I know it's not SV related, but I've been tinkering with my cbr400 nc23 tri arm ('89) for a little while and thought I'd ask a general question here.

Basically, I've knocked some of the top end off so it accelerates and picks up out of corners amazingly well now. All good.... but a few issues have cropped up.
1. (Minor niggle) My speedo is way off - it know thinks I'm doing over a ton everywhere!
2. I had to do a run down the A1 yesterday. The redline is at 14k and I previously would happily sit close to it in top, but now to get any kind of decent motorway pace I'm sitting at 15-15.5k in top for ages. (and the speedo goes off the edge of the dial!)

Now, obviously I realise I've knocked some top end off, but really would like to know just how much damage I might be doing to the little 400 sitting at top revs for an extended period. It's a good reliable engine and has been well maintained (at least by me). Just had oil and filter change and new plugs, coolant, etc.
I was a bit nervous about it so I kept rolling off, just to bring it down into the sensible bit of the range a bit! It never skipped a beat though, hasn't drunk loads of oil, etc. etc.
Should I just stick to the SV for the longer journeys now?

Dave

So - stuff I've done :

Rear wheel changed from 18" to a 17"
Sprockets front and rear - can't remember the number of teeth but I've dropped it down and lost some top end. TBH, I did this on the advice of Graham from GF - a bit of a 400 legend - but he was prob talking more for track than road. Made it wicked fun on the twisties though!
Plugs
Radiator flushed and refilled
New OE air filter
New braided lines and fluid

Red line. It's thre for a reason.
It's obvious that you need a bigger bike or better still Two bikes for different tasks

I wouldn't normally use it for any kind of motorway journey - it was only cos I wanted to actually test some of my mods out!
Will stick to the SV for motorways. Shame, it's a hell of a lot of fun to ride!
I'll save it for the weekends...

Your speedo is well off as it drives from the front sprocket so its not miscalibrated. You could stick a converter in it to change it from KPH to MPH but its not going to fix your accuracy issues.

Out of interest what rear wheel have you stuck in there?

Just checked and its an enkei. Rang Graham for some tyre advice and ended up buying it then and there. New spacers and a bit of effort and it went straight in. No problems with it, but at the top end it does feel ever so slightly less stable. Much nimbler though.
