Default Front or Back, brakes...

What do you use most...
Jax was taught 75% back and 25% front...

Now that's different to me where I is more 15% back, 85% front (not including engine braking in this as it will get confusing).

So I was taught all the power is in the front and most of the control, with it being far to easy to lock the back-up. You just use the back to help balance and control the bike when doing slow control and maneuvers.

Jax uses the back for most things, even dragging it a bit when riding (what I have said might be wrong so I'll leave it to be corrected).

So what do you do? Its made me think... As I would like to start instructing next year when I loose my points so this is rather a important lesson.

I use 99% front. But was taught the 75/ 25% rule on my test.

The front is so much more powerful and responsive I just use that. Leave the rear for locking it up for fun and for where I've over cooked it and don't have the grip for all out front. It can also be useful for assisting with U-turns and slow speed control.

For a beginner the 75/ 25% is a good idea, but as you get more experienced I've found most swap to the front. I have been known to ride without a rear caliper and am quite comfortable with this.

I was taught the 50/50 in wet, 75/25 in dry ratio. That is front/rear.

Personally all I tend to use is rear brake and engine braking. Front brake when I'm hammering it in the twisties. I just don't tend to touch the front otherwise. And I tend to believe its why I have yet to come off i.e it means I have to plan ahead more and take precautions earlier. That's just my thoughts though. I jsut find it incredible that some people use 90% front brakes.

Another 75/25 tutee here.

Now, I try to use the brakes as little as possible, but if I do usually front only, only use back to settle the bike.

who cares % wise, its not as if you can acuratly guage it. What ever feals right, in the wet bias to the back, in the dry front is king. I find if you even the rear in the wet it gives the fealing of the back sliding out. If you are realy braking hard on the front, dont even bother with the rear, i find it just unstables the bike and you get a tail wag.

Ok guys I hear you but how do you guys manage to work the percentages .

For me mostly front. Some days I don't even use it. The back is mostly there to keep the bike road legal

Cheers
Ben

I USED to use back more (mainly cause my front brake didnt really work )

Now that my fronts sorted i use both to slow down/stop, front first then rear

As much front, and as much back, sa I feel the circumstances allow Mostly front though, I'd say maybe 85/15 normally, but that's just a made up statistic... but often I'll use no rear at all, just the engine braking. In fact, often I'll use basically no brakes at all.

Only use the rear brake for emergency stops. the engine braking is enough on the SV, but with a IL4 use some back brake but mostly front.
