Default Insurance ???

Why are insurance companies such hard work, sold my street triple yesterday. I was planning on picking up a cheap old zx6r off a friend just to keep a bike. Now go to change my insurance over and the underwriter doesnt want to insure me on this bike. WTF at the start of my policy i was on a 5.5K sprint st1050, now wanting to go to a 12year old £1000 600cc hack and there not interested. got to wait till monday now to see if they can change it over.
Question is i only have 2months left on my policy so i didnt want to lose an extra years no claims, if they dont change it can i just leave my policy to run to get my no claims up?
The funniest thing the same insurer will insure me for 12months on the zx6r for £120 if i take a new policy

Sounds like different under writers. The company you are dealing with are probably just a broker who sold you someone elses policy.

My insurance did the same thing to me last year when I bought my sv. They would not let me change bike only quoting a new policy twice the price I had been quoted by another firm and would not match as it was a internet price. So then they gave me the bomb shell that I could not continue my old policy as I was no longer the owner of the bike with only 1 month left. So I ended up paying a 30 pound fee to stop the policy and lost my first years no claims. Will never use swinton again

Do you have to pay the cancellation fee? Can you not just leave the policy to run out?
Yeah I believe they are just an underwriter but it just seems common sense if you can get insured on a new 1050cc then an old 600 should be no issue

And there is the problem. You are trying to apply Common Sense to the insurance industry. I gave up with that approach years ago.

Best of luck getting it resolved.

At £120, another year's bonus isn't going to make a lot of difference, plus you'll need to cancel the new policy early to take out a new one with the extra bonus. You'll probably lose out with fees etc.

Just cancel the policy. You may not get any money back on it. If they want you to pay an EXTRA fee to cancel it then **** that. Just let it run out. Don't believe anyone who tells you that's illegal.

You will still be linked to the vehicle via the MID so you could get a call if the new owner gets in an accident or tries to say you're insuring the bike for him. Easy enough to resolve when you prove that you sold it but "forgot" to cancel the insurance.

I have a motor trade client who regularly leaves vehicles on the MID after sale. I get enquiries regularly from insurance companies and police about these vehicles. Sometimes we need to produce the sales invoice but that's as difficult as it gets.

Thanks for that Tam thats what i will do i think, will give them to tomorrow to see if they can change but if not i will tell them to go whistle. Have never understood the cancellation charge as i have already paid them for 12months the cheeky buggers.
On a swift derail cant beleive how well the suspension handles the pot holes and how sharp the brakes bite on a 12year old machine, am looking forward to a proper ride on my new/old machine
