Some advice please... I'm a new SV owner... bought mine as a workhorse.
I commute on my 650 (red, curvy) Over the M62 Huddersfield to Manchester (UK). All was fine for the first week... but now... When I pull in at Brighouse (on my way home) to refuel the bike won't start again until it's rested a while (5 mins or so) All the electrics seem to be okay... But no start either in gear out of gear, clutch in, clutch out, sidestand up or down. And nothing needs to change before it will work again. I end up sitting on the forecourt in neutral, side stand up waiting until the start button will operate again. It did this to me the other morning when I was pulling away on a roundabout. Stall then no starter... Lights, horn, indicator, etc all okay... just no start. I thought maybe the sidestand switch but am not convinced... Any clues? K. |

Maybe similar to the problem with horn. It stops working when hot and starts working again after cooling down a bit. Maybe breaks contact when hot and makes contact again after cooling.
If you pay at the pump you could keep the engine running. ![]() |

I think this may be a long list of possibility's that you will have to work through to eliminate. So my addition to the list is:
Take a look at the clutch switch, its under the left hand switch gear. Remover the connectors and bridge with a split pin or similar. If that solves it then the clutch switch is at fault IIRC £5 - 8. Other than that check all electrical connectors ![]() |

if it's not the sidestand switch, then maybe check the the clutch lever switch?

My car used to do this too, only it would actually attempt to start, turning over on the starter, but never bite.
T'was the fuel pump. |

Do you have an immobiliser fitted?
I had this problem where sometimes the starter motor wouldn't work but I had all other electrics. Eventually traced it back to the immobiliser. |
