What brands that oil? if it's decent stuff doesn't sound like a bad price I pay just over £16 for a big tub of putoline, either 4 or 5litres I forget.

Was this bike specific oil?
The fully synthetic bike oil wasn't reduced on Monday, it was still £29. Altthough their car oils were reduced

I used to buy the 1L tubs for the quad, seemed to do the job!
No idea who makes it for Halfrauds though, might be Castrol in a different container ![]() Semi-syn motorcycle oil. Last edited by Aquila; 30-12-09 at 02:26 PM. |

The car oil was reduced to below what I pay for the Comma stuff I get from Wilco's, so a good price, although not as cheap as the Lidl oil I used for my old Cavalier. But its not too fussy about oil ![]()

And in a couple of months time the oil will have free screwdrivers with it again, at which point I could do with some more screwdrivers.
While on the subject of Halfords and their offers now is a good time to splash out on some tools. Some of their Pro/ Advanced tool sets are nicely reduced, for example this is an excellent travel set and a bargain at £15, I often have this set with me on rideouts. Other larger sets are half price so now is a good time to buy. |

I would not use a car oil for a bike where the same oil is used for the gearbox and clutch. I would insist however that it met the minimum specification required by the bike's manufacturer.
Having said that there does appear to be differences between semi/part synthetic oils. Morris Lubricaants (http://www.morrislubricantsonline.co...ld=description) show two different oils for four strokes that are not fully synthetic. One is listed as part synthetic and the other was listed as semi synthetic. I contacted Morris's and asked what oil I should use for an SV650 K3 and what was the difference between these two oils. They never advised the difference but did say that I can use either in my bike. There is £10 difference for 4 litres between these two oils. Therefore it is possible that one company's semi is another company's part and that may be part of the reason for the difference in prices. I note that Halfords are marketing the oil as part synthetic at £17.99 for 5 litres. Note that fully synthetic does not always mean that it is fully synthetic as you and I would believe. Well not in the United States, at least. Here's a link with some documentation on this and other bike related stuff. http://www.amsoil.com/products/stree...hitePaper.aspx Incidentally I was under the impression that Comma produced Halfords oils, but on another forum last year an ex employee was asserting that it came from Esso. I am also led to believe from other documentation that I have seen that most of the big oil companies produce for each other depending on production needs. The only difference being the additive package that is included, and that is supplied by external companies. |
