They've become properly 'collectable' - I'm amazed at the price stuff like this is changing hands for recently.

See also SS50 Honda and AP50 Suzuki. neither seem quite as searched for but are still going for silly money.

My old one, having been restored by my lil sister and her eldest son. It cost her £199 to buy in 1982, and £2500 to restore about 3 years ago

Fizzies have been a favourite for a couple of years or three now. They always have a new wave of enthusiast every now and again. Its a bit like Elsies they never go out of fashion, and a non runner can really bring on the pennies, as I found out when the ex sold both of his.

Her garden is only that well kept because I gave her my heyooge petrol mower with a drive gearbox, and she has an elderly neighbour who likes to do gardening.

When she bought that bike off my dad it was a wreck, having been under my abusive ar5e (and a few cars) for the best part of a year and 12000 miles. I'd kinda inherited it from my elder two sisters, each time dad bought it back off us for what we paid, £199, which is what it cost him new from Coburn and Hughes in 1972. She steadily got it looking reasonable and used it daily for about 2 years, then lobbed it in the back of her ex-husband's garage. It then got dragged out and shunted to different garages as they moved up the house chain but she refused to sell it. Eventually the boys took an interest and they restored it together - once it was finished the eldest decided it was too nice to ride and bought a shonky old trailie 50 and used that instead.

That photo was taken the day they finished it, and I saw it later in the day and declared it wrong in one respect. I'll bet no-one will guess what's glaringly obviously wrong about it (to me at least). It's got nothing to do with colour, or the wrong make of tyres... it's something a bit more obscure and only a true FS1E nut will be able to tell, but it sticks out like a sore thumb to me and has since been rectified.

Nah, it's been obscured at my sister's request so no-one tries to come and nick it. The front No. plate is the original black and white one that I removed in 1978 and nailed to the garage door at my parent's house. That didn't escape the retoration techniques either.
