hi all, new here and in need of help.
OK so long story short, i was given an fzr400 with a dead gearbox, 1 fzr600 engine later (which a friend bought me for painting his zx6) and i then had an fzr4/6 which worked really well but was a bit tired and in need of some tlc (but had only cost me the the princely sum of £40 for service parts), throw in one throw away comment on a post on face book and the 1988 fzr was swapped for a 2000 plate sv, now the sv is clean with a few "choice" mods (which will mostly be put back to standard as and when they come up cheap on egay, but has unfortunately had some valve to piston interface action when the valve head dropped off the stem and smashed the granny out of the piston and head, barrel seems to have survived the incident amazingly, but with the bike came most of a spare engine which has a rear piston and a pair of conrods. so now i scour egay in search of a cylinder head, is there a massive glaring difference between the front and rear cylinder heads or can they be swapped? does anyone have a front cylinder head going spare? any ideas as to why the valve head dropped off? looks to be exhaust. thanks for any help, its much appreciated. |

what cylinder are you after?
I recently did some cylinder heads and they are marked front and rear. remeber that the exhaust is is on the front of thre front cylinder and on the rear of the rear cylinder. you dont want to go swapping stuff around. it's best to replace with the proper part for the job |

Ok having investigated the options of putting the rear head on the front I've discovered it is possible but with a bit of machining which would make the cost of doing it too much.

Are you putting the rods from the spare engine in the bikes current engine and using the rear piston from the spare as a replacement for the front?

Yep that's the plan but I'll check the rods first see if I have a good pair out of the 4
