Kids not eating what you serve up?
Me I'll eat pretty much anything. I did once loose it, when my Nan made me have celery soup, but i was only 9. I was listening to Radio 2 and Bear Gryls was being interviewed by Patrick Keilty, Bear had bought maggots in, as he knew that he'd be asked about weird food. Much to my surprise Keilty ate more than one maggot, as did Bear's kids who were with him in the studio. I went off spaghetti for a while as a teenager as i thought it was worms. ![]()

I cant understand it either, it baffles me why people are fussy? Im same as you Bibs i will eat owt at all or at least try it before i say yuk. It may come from growing up totally skint and having to eat what we had or go hungry.

I'll eat most things but I draw the line at anything that is eating something else while I'm eating it unless its blue cheese.
Also find it a bit off putting eating something that is looking at me which includes insects and weird seafood. ![]() I came from the from the school of thought of if its tastes this bad it must be good for you !

I am a fussy eater, I have a very strange sense of taste and I really struggle with some flavours.
I can eat spicy food and can enjoy a vege chili, chicken curry or a good medium steak. However, there are some things that I cannot stand the smell of and just the smell will induce nausea even to this day. Having spoken to my Aunt who is also of a similar disposition I can only conclude that the cause is the horrendous cooking of our parents. My Mother's Mother was a terrible cook, as is my Mother. The biggest problem comes from the fact that as a child, my Mother could not care less about feeding us, cooking was a chore that she hated and as such we were often presented with barely edible food. I remember being about six years old trying to swallow down the vomit when my Mother presented us with very badly cooked cauliflower. The smell alone was of an abused toilet, the texture was of rotten veg and the reason for this was because it was. My Mother's roast potatoes were implements of torture, they had burned glass like edges that cut the roof of my mouth, the centre of the potato would be raw and to be honest they were inedible. Carrots served would be close to water and lacked any flavour. To this day I prefer uncooked veg or at best lightly steamed. Christmas dinner for my siblings and I as children was a bitter experience. My mother laboured the point that she had got up at dawn to cook for us and she would be unhappy until we each had shoulders loaded with guilt for wanting our mother to feed us. To this day I do not like roast turkey because I remember Mum leaving the turkey in the sink until the ice on the outside had melted, She would then slam it in the oven and leave it for several hours. She would at some point attempt to serve the Turkey which would once again be burned on the outside but raw or on one occasion still frozen inside, so it would go back in the oven until "cooked". Veg would slowly liquefy as it boiled for the next three hours and the smell would be awful. When dinner was finally served, it would be mainly carbon, mush and flavourless. My Mother was ambivalent about having children and by the time I was ten years old, I had learned to cook for myself. As an adult I became a vegetarian for a while. Again I ate a healthy diet that was varied and interesting. My Girlfriend at the time Sarah was also vegetarian and we were both invited to stay with my my Mother for a weekend. I warned Sarah not to accept food from my Mum, but Sarah was conned into staying for dinner and was too polite to refuse. Dinner was served to us and my mother had boiled some Pasta shells for close to an hour, they had almost turned into slime. That was then served up to us. Sarah asked if there was any sauce to put on the pasta, my Mother presented us with a bottle of ketchup and complained that we had not even tried dinner before slapping sauce on it. Again, I nearly vomited and quickly made our excuses to leave. I have said many times that if I did not have to eat, I would not. I find eating to be an unpleasant experience that I still do not enjoy. I have had a lot of therapy now (yes, seriously) thanks to the strange relationship I have with my family, but I cannot over come my difficulties with food. The happy outcome to this though is that my Wifey is an amazing cool, she uses herbs and spices, puts a honey glaze on meats and tries really hard to cook for me. There have been moments of upset though when she has cooked something beautiful, but the smell has induced memory nausea in me. So yeah, I am a fussy eater and I hate food. maybe this will help you understand why. When I first left home, I hated food so much I refused to cook and lived on things called Power Bars which I got cheap and in bulk from work. This diet had the effect you are imagining and I made myself very ill ![]() |

If Foggy can eat it, I am sure I can.
But I draw the line at sprouts, they are the invention of the devil simply designed to make you trump. Yes, i will eat anything. I hate the don't like the look of brigade. My kids had no choice. If I serve it, they eat it.
