3 weeks ago I had to chase a couple of junkies out of the public toilet at work. Today the same junkies came back but with golf clubs, luckily for me and not so for me I had 2 other people with me. What the hell am I going to do next time this happens and I'm alone?

Anybody who thinks facilities management is glamorous is seriously mistaken...

When you eject these people you need to be firm but civil at the same time.

If they come back tooled up call the police immediately. Having done this a number of times myself its unlikely that they will attack as they really don't want the attention. They just want to intimidate.

If you are concerned for your safety talk to your management about your role and what protection they can offer. Enrol in a self defence class, and use them for a 'class outing', but seriously taking some tuition is a good move.

But above all do not put yourself at risk.

Stu that is a different situation. By liking that story to this thread you are assuming that this gang of youths were crack addicts, I have not seen this claim in any reports. Further there is no mention of the way in which this situation was approached.

Do not get me wrong this is a terrible story, however it is very different from ejecting druggies from toilets.

Hmm. I think, if I was in your position, and was really worried about it...well is there any way you can ask the cops for pictures of these guys?
Tell them what you are thinking, and that you need the pictures to show your staff.
Then inform your staff that they are to keep an eye out for any junkies, and if any of them spot either of that pair, you will bung them 50 quid.

Also, in the rougher bits of Dublin, they have these UV lights in the jacks, to stop dudes shooting up. Its really trashy, but, it works i think. They cant find a vein.

And / or you could put up a camera (or fake camera) that looks at all people entering and exiting the jacks.

Other than that... just dont try and be a hero. Back away, talk to them, keep backing up, keep saying everything is cool, tell them anything, that you used to be a junky, and you know what its like etc etc. Any sh%te at all.

No point in getting your head kicked in.

Public Building (or building to which the public have access and Facilities Management)?

First off - drop me a line if you are at Olympia on Tuesday

Secondly - are you employed by the building owner, or by a Managing Agent / FM provider or any other contractor? If you are employed by anyone other than the building owner you need to be SIA Frontline registered to carry out any Security related function.

Otherwise, if they threaten violence, back off, call the Police and start loking for CCTV footage, witnesses etc

Hovi5 - when you click on the extra emoticon, the page defaults to your bar at the bottom of the screen so you have to click on it again to bring it up. Also the emoticons will probably have stopped moving about so you might want to close the emoticon page and open it again...works for me!!
