My indicators only work 50% of the time.
Sorry had to start it like that, but they do. If I indicate right they flash if I indicate left they don't (well sometimes they do, most of the time they don't). If I stick the left on and their not working I get a little dip of the lights. If I try the left and it doesn't work the right won't work either for a little. So thats the problem... I have a spare switch and tried that, it worked fine. Plugged the old one back in and it worked. Swapped them again, the spare didn't work (I know the indicators on this switch work, other bits don't) and the current one didn't either. So I presume the switch is ok. I know the bulbs are fine as they do light up on arming the alarm. With the front plastics off I can't see any chaffed wires. So assume the relay. However the bible says there is no way to test this and to look at the wires going in. The test they describe is not very well worded but I appear to get some battery voltage across some of the wires. So mighty org is it the relay? Is there a better way for me to test this? How much would one be? Anyone got a spare? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance... |

Now this won't be much use except to highlight Chris's comments about ways to test the circuit and the knowledge that if you can sort it out in less than two weeks you're doing better than me.
Good luck. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ight=drefraser |

do you have an alarm on the bike? have you looked at where the wires go into the indicator relay under the seat? have the wires going into the relay been spliced into, taped over and possibly shorted or lost good connection? happened to me, the alarm guy had to put a diode into a wire (power feed) going into the relay, so that the current only went one way. otherwise, it would have had technical difficulties. let me know. -D

We often see problems like this around my way with cars - does anything on your bike function strangely when the left indicator appears to not work?
My dad's a mechanic and suggests checking your earths - if the indicator circuit for the left indicator isnt earthed properly, then the indicators may not work, and something else may function wierdly as a result. |

Well the bike is off the road now as it’s broke.
I’m suspecting it’s a bad earth or broken wire. I spoke to the guys at George Whites when I enquired about the price of a relay (£70 if anyone wants one) and they told me if it were the relay it would just stop working and not be intermittent. However the problem has now spread and the alarm fuse (yes I do have one!) keeps blowing when arming/ disarming. So after a very cold 1 ½ in Tescos car park waiting for recovery the bike is now resting in the garage until the weekend when I can get to it for a few hours with a Multimeter to try and find the fault. |
