Default Gsx-r 400

Hey guys,

I've got the opportunity to buy a dirt-cheap GSX-R 400. A friend of my brother's bought it for a runaround, and while riding it back from buying it got pulled as he hadn't sorted insurance on it. He now can't afford it after fine+insurance hike, so is looking to get shut.

First, what're they like? Won't get to see it till Tues/Weds. I've heard good things about the little 400s, so hopeful it'd be good.

Secondly, if I didn't like it, would anyone here be interested in it, or know someone who would? At the worst I can probably make a small amount of cash on it while still giving someone a bargain (given that they're going for about £1300 on biketrader right now...)

Thirdly, any ideas on the possibility for a front-end swap? My brother's not sure if it's an 89 or a 90, but if it's 90, it's USD forks and 4-pots. Any ideas if this would be an easy swap, as I can't see anyone having done it before.

Cheers!

All of your answers will most likely be found at 400 Grey Bike.

But for what its worth the little I know of the GSXR is they are a nice little bike but were not as well imported over here. Thus spares are a bit of a problem.

These bikes are getting close to being 20 years old. That said they can show up Sunday hero's on SS600's if ridden correctly and some experienced riders are moving back to them, particularly the RVF400. But age is the biggest concern, thus £1300 for one is in my opinion a little to much unless its factory fresh if you know what I mean. But if its cheap enough who's going to complain. How much is it going for and pictures please?

No pics at the moment, going to see it on Weds night, probably. He's not set a definite price yet, but he's probably only going to ask for a few hundred, given that he bought it for basically nothing from a friend (was owed a bit by the friend, so got the bike at a steal), and is now trying to get rid to cover a fine and some other bits. He's one of my youngest brother's best friends so he's going to sell it to me at mates rates. As for how much I'll sell it for if I don't get on with it, not sure. Probably about the £800 mark.

I did own a 400 "impulse" for a while sometime back, not a race rep at all, but a whizzy engine none the less; needed a fair old twist of the wrist to get going, but was alright, great for the shorties as the frames are smaller.

As to the front end change, well the normal GSXR front end is shorter than the SV, I would imagine on one of these it'd be shorter still

Cheers Mark

and you can pick up an NC30 for 500quid, has to be a good GSX-R400 to be worth anything.

RVF's are awesome bikes and I agree they are slightly better than the VFR's. The VFR's however have the Class that the RVF's dont. Which is why people like em, they are soooo sexxxxy in White Red and Blue.

A VFR will sell in Days a RVF will sell in months....

vfr's are a scaled down rc30, whereas the rvf does look different to the rc45
