Im currently stripping my sv to give it good clean up and lube everything up. This evening turned my attention to the front sprocket area, as I took off the plastic cover, large lumps of oily sludge blobbed out onto the floor, and the whole area is covered in thick black gloop.
Ive been using gear oil to lube my chain for the past 10K miles, and although i regularly clean the chain, i dont clean much else, and as i use it daily the crud bult up. even found a top hat spacer/washer stuck to all the gloop at the front of the swingarm behind the cover, feck knows where that came from!!!!!!!!!! As above. Just clean it out now and again. And while you're down there make sure you lube the worm drive.

All that carp is a good sign.It means you have been lubing the chain. Many dont bother and wonder why they have spend so much money on C&S kits.

Keep using the gear oil, let it build up a bit more, and then it'd be like a permenant grease blob that'll keep you lubed? if you catch my drift?

AT least you can see when the chain is running dry.
Ever since I switched to this Wurth dry stuff I just guesstimate when it needs a spray! |

That wurth dry stuff is sh*te... there are some good chain lubes and some terrible ones, putoline make a good one, castrol "racing" chain lube is great stuff... couple of others... I've not seen a dry one worth using. You might as well avoid splashing the back wheel and making a terrible mess by not lubricating the chain at all.

I only got the wurth stuff after reading some good reviews on here.
I'll get some castrol stuff then, I'm nearly out of the Wurth anyway. Cheers YC |
