My current DVD player is about to enter silicon heaven (or should that be silicon hell?) after I smash it into a gazillion pieces cos it's a pile of crap.
![]() So, I was seraching the web for a new player, when I came across this which looks like a good idea. I wanted a player that was DivX compatible anyway so that I can watch my, er, *ahem* downloaded films through my TV & stereo. But this would be even better cos I wouldn't even have to burn a disc with the film on it, just stream it directly to the player over the network. I was just wondering if anyone had tried one or anything like it? |

Not tried that, but have you considered a Graphics card with TV out?
Alternativly, just use your pc and get a bigger monitor ![]() |

We use a chipped X Box that can access the network. If you get a decent chip it will play most formats and copied X Box games,

Squirrel - PC isn't close enough to the TV to use a TV out lead. Bigger monitor isn't really an option either due to a lack of desk space / money (already have a 17" LCD, so any bigger will mean lots more £££).
Furrybean - I sold my modded XBox a while ago, I was thinking of getting a 360 but I'm waiting for the PS3 to come out before i decide... |

I got a cheap player from Asda that does Div X from a variety of flash memory cards.
The Kiss players are supposed to be good for streaming across a network. |

With the new HD format DVDs just around the corner (Blueray anyone?) I would wait a couple of months if you can. If you like full function DVS players, then wait until the new format is out or wait and standard DVD players will be dirt cheap.
And if your were thinking of gettin a new TV, most new HD ready sets will also act as a PC monitor (in RGB mode) natively, with 1280x1024 or 1024x768 resolutions. That way you can investifate the TV / PC / BB video streaming facility. And the IPTV system to be lauched by BT in the Autumn gives viadeo on demand over broadband, links to the BT homehub (and maybe any wireless router?) has a PVR built in and is HD ready. Lots of options, take a look a what is coming round the corner, before spending cash. |
