Default Chain Wax with Scotoiler

Was out adjusting my chain today and after I finished I topped up the Scotoiler then gave the chain a squirt with some chain loob. Then I found some chain wax that a mate left me when we changed my chain and decided to give it a quick coat of that, but the can was empty.

But this got me thinking, would it be wise to use chain wax with a Scotoiler? As chain wax creates a seal to stop loob flying off, so it would stop loob getting in making a Scotoiler redundant until the wax had dissapeared.

What everyones views?

that would be mt opinion, as toy say the wax would make it sort of waterproof so the oil would probaly not stick IMO

I don't think it matters a jot as long as you have lube on your chain at all times.

I was asking myself the exacy same thing when I used chain wax. Well it might depend on the type of chain wax but from my experience, the scottoiler will clean off the chain wax over a shortish time. It also shows how good the oiler is and that the claims that the distribution on one side the stuff really does creep to the other side of the chain.

HTH.

Scottoil say don't use anything else on the chain as the scotoil won't be able to penetrate but I can't see a bit on the side plates, to stop corrossion causing any problems.

Just to be clear, you're not doing any harm to the chain, it's just a bit pointless to wax it and use a scottoiler at the same time.

Just a short point, even with a Scottoiler, you should still clean the chain from time to time. I have to agree with the above, using both is of arguable value. I'd stick to the oiler though.

Well I think I will just stick to the oiler and a bit extra when I get the chance. As has been said having wax on there won't do any damage, but then it probably won't do any more good then not having it.

Plus I don't have any left in the can
