I race and own a dealership and have ridden hundreds of bikes for over 12 years now therefore i know a fair bit and can make comparisons. I may sell Ohlins dampers but would recommend you buy a GPR instead..i try to remain unbiased and base my recommendations from experience. Final word..get the best you can afford and something that is made and developed for the bike. Cant go wrong with that! |

I wish!! I do however have no problem recommending anyone who IMO deserves it. For example if you wanted Honda bits then i'd recomend www.powerbiking.co.uk/Brian greys motorcycles as my past dealings with them have always been very helpful. I dont get anythng out of them for the recommendation they are just a pleasure to deal with. You might iyo call me a sycophant(had to look it up by the way!!) but i just see it as praising those that deserve it. |

![]() ![]() SJ, you need to accept that there are other people out there that have had experience too, many more than you even ![]() In summery your viewpoint IS valid, but is far from the definitive answer!!l!! ![]() ![]() *however much you don't like it, fact is you need to accept that what I have to say is from experience too ![]() ![]() Finally just coz you can 'afford' a race shock doesn't mean it makes sense to buy one ... i.e. even if you have the cash, most people could spend that money in much 'better' ways (presuming money isn't in simple abundance) ... ![]() Here is a similar example to demonstrate what I mean:- Someone says 'Thinking about getting some tools to do some home spannering as me old ones are shot, what do you recommend and where do I get them from?!' Its a no-brainer that a company like Snap-On supply the best tools and these would do the job superbly ... but I turn round and say 'I love Snap-On, but I have taken my full bike apart with a Draper set and it worked just fine' ... So, bearing in mind they are many times the price of Draper and Draper would do the job well, buying Snap-On tools surely would only really make sense if you spanner by trade or just, well have lots of cash and want the best ![]() ![]() BTW I have a couple of Snap-On spanners and a 3/8 ratchet and they are great, the quality is plain to see/feel ... but I have never 'bought' Snap-On tools ... no I didn't nick them, they were presents ![]() ![]() If you are still awake, does any of this make any sense to you?! ![]() Last edited by Blue_SV650S; 06-06-07 at 11:25 PM. |

Oh and although it's not 'designed' for it, a 3/8 spanner fits most 10mm nuts real well, I have certainly undone many a 10mm bolt with a 3/8 spanner!!

![]() Some people just want it as cheap as possible, but that will just about do the job (for a short while, before needing replacing)- okay buy a low mileage SV shock, or to use your example, some no-brand value store tools. Some people want a bit better, but aren't prepared/able to fork out much more, get a ninja/gsx-r shock or some draper tools. Others want a good one, but can't justify the cost of the top level ones, okay, get a Nitron or Hyperpro SV shock or halfords professional tools. For others, money is no object, or they really do crave every last drop of performance. Fine, snap on tools and penske/Ohlins shock it is. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guess what? Next week I'll be fitting my new Nitron shock with my halfords professional tools. ![]() |

Precisely, a great analogy that works at all levels of comparrison even if I say so myself
![]() Going for 'the best' is a no-brainer, but generally needs deep pockets ... its safe to assume most people pockets don't run as deep as they would like ![]() I actually had the money for an Ohlins, but it took me a long time to convince myself to go for one as it just didn't make financial sense to me at first ... if I hadn't had an urge to race it, it still wouldn't ![]() Last edited by Blue_SV650S; 07-06-07 at 03:10 PM. |
