From this list I would say there were no warning lights for oil pressure on the dash before, during, or after the breakdown. The engine was cleaned throughly before reassembly and the majority of swaf was found in the oil strainer, I also rotated the oil pump to clean it and found no swaf. Though I concede there is a possibility that some may have remained somewhere.

What has changed your thinking on this? Has anybody else reground a SV crank? If they have, have any failures been reported?

If fine grit has got through pump it may have opened up internal clearances and allowed leakage. Maybe.
As you have found, oil light is no use, only tells you AFTER damage is occurring.

But that is not definite, tear it down and see. Does it still run just clattery or what?

Not restarted it once I pulled up but it didn't die just very noisy and very unhealthily. Didn't want to pump any more crap round the engine in case it increased damage to any of the other parts like the pistons and barrels so switched it off and left it.

Yep its going to be a take it apart and see, unfortunately might be a few weeks before I can do this. So I need to get a spare bike up and running until I do this one.
