Having ordered & gone to fit new chain,JT 525 xring 110 links long,(of course i don't need sprockets I'd thought a week ago after a brief look in the rain)I now need new sprockets obviously
![]() My question is: the rear is a 44 & front 15 tooth new chain is110,old chain(now I count the links!) 108 ! The sprocket is off the front but I started to fit the new chain, rivet link on but not pressed over, seems miles to long? Has anyone got a 15/44 tooth with 110 link chain set up,is there enough adjustment left? I can order what size i need now, worth changing? I only ask as the weather is now gale force winds & torrential rain(the bikes outside)so now i can't check bugger all & i'd like to order the new parts asap as its now off road SV 650 curvy naked 1999 |

Pretty sure the naked runs a 45 rear sprocket. Read this thread, there's others.

All you need to do is cut the chain to size, use a grinder to grind away the side plate at the right size, then just joint it with the rivet link.

Because: The S model with the 15/44 sprockets takes a 108 chain. Lots of parts lists get this wrong. Looks like yours might have S sprockets fitted, or perhaps was once faired?

Thanks for that
I wasn't sure, thought i might have a converted "S" model but the frame number matches to a naked bike. The sprockets must have been changed in the past. Having had a look on the gearing commander site & the fact it won't be doing many long trips I've ordered the 15/45 sprocket combo now. It looks like the difference is slight on top speed etc so might as well try the original gearing & keep the chain at 110. |

I read somewhere that exact multiples of sprocket numbers aren't as good because the same bit of chain hits the same bit of sprocket repeatedly so can cause uneven and more rapid wear, but I doubt it makes that much difference really.
