Part 12; Almost There:

Well the engine got into the frame so it was time to start on the rest of the bike. The machine hasn't turned a wheel in anger for around a year and a half so things need to be prepared. Front and rear brakes were striped and rebuilt. The rear had seized pins, though these were removed by a local lad in an engineering company for the price of a pint. The chain was removed cleaned and rerivited back on. The swing arm and shock was cleaned, as was the rear wheel plus other bits and pieces.

So back to slightly more interesting things. The grips were Renthals but had started to wear and were quite messy. So I used this as an excuse to replace them with R6 items. The carbs were then stuck back on and then the radiator was plumbed in. I'd recommend the carbs before the rad as it gives you better access to the front cylinder. Throttle cables were attached and adjusted, and an oil filter was added to the engine followed by some strange liquid.

With the engine well oiled a battery was robbed from the Blackbird and without the plugs in we turned the engine over. Or at least we tried. We got nothing from it. So the dash was hastily reinstalled and the started motor chugged the engine round for the first time. No crunching noises so thats a good sign.

not much left now just throw some fuel in it and see if it fires up. Oh and an exhaust and air box might be useful. The MOT booking is on the horizon.

R6 grip comparison. Renthal on the left R6 on the right.

Worm drive, chain, gear change, and a bit of cleaning. More is required.

If only I did this all that time ago.

Proof.

Just a little bit left.

Some of you might remember this bike from AR09.
