Trouble is this is where I lost motivation for a couple of months. Upon regaining the desire to get SH2 back up and running I found that I had mislaid the crank shaft thrust washer. So off to Piston Broke went the engine to get measured for a new one. This took some time.

But once the washer arrived, my gopher was dispatched to retrieve the engine. He did and then dropped it. Back it went to have a new main bearing as the cam chain gear on the crank had left a couple of nice dents it.

This time when the gopher picked it up he didn't drop it and brought it back to me with an extra bit. If anyone can identify what it is I'd appreciate it as I'm fairly confident its not from my engine so will take it back to Piston Broke once I know for sure.

That wasnt the oil pressure regulator was it?

Fantastic Thread, I have an engine currently waiting to be stripped down to remove the crank for a regrind and so on, will get balanced etc. Talking to a chap at work he had this happen 3 times on a car he had, turns out that the oil hole was blocked on the crank.

Is it worth replacing the oil pump?

Mine broke because it ran out of oil. Broke my other bike this weekend though so have to get back on fixing the SV, currently been at it for 11months, engine finally came out of the bike today!!

Now that's what I call progress

Been on the phone to Applebee engineering, he reckons it is paramount following a bearing failure to strip the oil pump down and ensure that it is totally spotless and working well otherwise it will happen again.

He also reckons the shells on the SV are particularly soft, but it isn't the one he gets in the most, TDM is.

He also said no need to have a rebalance unless you change the pistons, thus saving you £85 + VAT.

Chap was very helpful, even reckoned he could sort out damaged conrods as well.

I will be sending him my crank in the next few days, unfortunately he is on holiday for the next 2 weeks so it wont be a quick turnaround. I will be using the time to sort out the front and

Part 16; There's an engine in my bucket:

As much as I want to strip this engine down and see the damage and fix the mess my current housing situation doesn't help. So to get me back on the road I decided to do the unthinkable, find a replacement engine.

Robc76 came to my rescue with a very reasonably priced engine from his former race bike. This arrived in a fantastic pink bucket which will come in handy.

BaP came over to test the tensile strength of my alternator - reg/ rec wiring as we removed the old engine and replaced it with the newly supplied block one evening. With the new engine in the frame I got to the task of plugging it in. This is the old engine followed by SH2 halfway through:

Wasn't as bad as before as I had learned a couple of tricks from the last time. Needed to do a bit of prep to the new block, remove the old exhaust studs, replace the generator cover, stab myself with a gasket scraper, remove the race lock wire to do a filter change, stab myself with the lock wire.

With everything in and connected engine oil filled, checked, and rechecked I went to fire it up. And then stick the battery on charge. With a charged battery the engine fired into life and an uneventful test ride was completed.

So with SH2 again back on the road my thoughts return to the now broken engine. I'm working on getting some parts and once (if) I ever move into my house I will get that engine apart, repaired and back in. The oil pump is also on the list of parts to replace. After that I wonder where this engine is going to end up...

Finally the bike is back:

Well Done SH!

I'll be honest, by this time I would have set the whole lot on fire and be done with it.

Very well done, I would have never got this far.

Had to laugh at the mandatory stabbing oneself parts
