Definately a different bike, when I used to put my 650 in the shed it fitted with room to swing cats around. the new 1000 frame is at least 6 inch longer and wider, nothing is the same except the fuel tank

If you're thinking of re-fronting the thou (makes sense IMO) then SV thou parts aren't all that common but if memory serves the Y-K3 GSXR forks go almost straight in, and they're more common and generally not expensive- plus you could reuse the wheel if you have it and it's straight. I'd check that with someone who knows stuff about the thou, mind. DougZ on SV Rider has this setup I think.

Someone has managed to get a TL 1000 (not sure if the mounts are the same as the version in the SV thou) engine into an sv650. There were photos of it on the JHS site, but they didn't give much away.

Yep, but it's a ton of work, I reckon from reading the writeups that it'd be almost easier to make a whole new frame.
