We have not experienced any crank failures on the ones we run with the stock crank as we run the crank correctly balanced/lightened and with the race generators. IMHO its not the crank thats the issue its the weight of the flywheel weight as they are too heavy and it torque sheers the crank. The rods as stock are weak so we change those and the slipper clutch keeps stress off the motor under heavy downshifting and makes it nicer to ride anyway.

Most common issue we had was head bolts - you need stronger ones, rods and rod bolts. Other than that for a motor that is stressed beyond belief over stock they are strong if built correctly.
Referring specifically to 700cc big bores only, I was told that 700 was fine with the standard crank, rods and other internals. Can't remember about the head bolts however. So why do you recommend rods, lightened and balanced crank, race generator and slipper clutch? The intended use is on a road bike so a race generator would be an issue.

All ours we build are race bikes and get the living daylights ragged out of them so stronger components are a must to keep reliable and run a season with no hassles.

If your running on the road then stock rods etc would be fine same with head bolts unless your running the compression we are on these bikes.

I'd like a noticeable increase in grunt from 4,000 rpm's. top speed is fine never go over 100mph .
don't really want to gear it down as it earns its keep as a commuter plodding up and down the A12.And if you have to start shuffling up/down the box to make progress it defeats the point of a v twin.
