Er mine does look tatty and old and battered lol. It is completely legit MOT and insurance and according to DVLA tax wise, just need this VIC check and a physical tax disc.

About 3 years ago I got done for failure to display in my Ferrari; it was an £80 ticket with no further action. While sat in the back of the mobile office I did ask about ANPR and they said that although the car was fine on that the fact they had spotted it made it worth a chat as you never know what else might have came from it. It was all fair and I was very happy with the service as it was completely my own fault. About a year later I got let off for failure to display this time on SH2, they thought it had no MOT at the time, hence the pull. All I got from that was a producer as I passed the attitude test and was legal (with the exception of the tax, and the can which the kind officer gave me a knowing look for).

So it is still possible.

Which reminds me I should really swap the tax disc on SH2 over as it’s been on the kitchen table for a month now…

I read some where it is not the police that report you but they advise the DVLA who send you a fine which I read was £30 as it isn't a 'criminal' offence like driving with no tax at all.

Does anyone know what the actual fine is?

I got done for 'failure to display' by a couple of cnuts about 2.5 years ago...disc was in the post...and I got to pay a FP(handed to me by the officers who did the stop) of £60.

Default VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) Tests

You can still be issued with a FP for failing to display road tax and I'm pretty sure it's one of the ones that's jumped to £100. I may be wrong though.

Default VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) Tests

They always give the disclaimer that it 'could' take up to 4-6 weeks but I've had two V5's recently and got them in about 2 weeks so fingers crossed for you!

That's good to hear, so 5 1/2 weeks minimum in effect as I got 3 1/2 weeks till this test.

Seems a long time to wait for the test. Is there no where else local to you that you could try?

I know I thought that too. It's booked via VOSA and is done at their HGV testing stations. Basically it's just an identity check to make sure its the same vehicle as it had been a Cat C due to its age and needed a rear bumper (purely cosmetic). The guy I bought it from has owned it since new and had it repaired himself but the insurers still whacked the VIC marker on it.

Newbury is my closest centre and that was their next available appointment.
