The answer to your question is 'no the K2 rectifier won't fit the Y'

anyway thanks for all your help ,i had to buy a new one in the end ,£60 .not to bad but a lot of money for what it is.

just one question,how hot do these regulators get????,
does anyone know

Are you able to simply change the plugs from a 2002 to fit a 2001 rectifier. Or do they have different input/outputs?

i dont know,i will say you have to be carefull.iv'e been round a few breakers and some have said that this one works or that one works but you have to change the connectors.i say if you love your bike get the proper thing and be done with it.
