If you're TPO then what difference would a colour change make to the risk? You could understand if you were TPFT as the colour change could increase the theft aspect, but sounds as if they were mucking you about.

I've got the same thing with my CBR400, its got non-standard paint (based on a '91 Fireblade I think) my current insurers wanted to add money to the policy or would not cover me (can't remeber which) so I had them insure the bike without the paint work meaning they would only replace bodywork in the factory colors. I think this is to stop them having to buy you new panels then pay for a re-spray, all about saving them money

Talk to them about that, it may work.

'kin 'ell. I live in Norfolk, Garaged bike, alarm immob, valued at £2500, 7000 miles a year (ok so I lied a little on that one ), 18 year old rider with 2 years no claims, £440 tpft, with a £400 excess.

That was through Telebikes.

Seems like you got shafted chap

Danno.

Close, but more likely to be coypu. Click here if you've never heard of them http://helios.bto.ed.ac.uk/icapb/col...ml/mrcoypu.htm. Some escaped from a fur farm and although they've been more or less wiped out (they bred at a staggering rate) I'm sure there is still a few out there. Can you tell I used to live in Norfolk??

I asked my car insurers about what would happen if I upgraded my engine control unit, as my 51 plate 1.6 Astra is as flat as a pancake. You can get them re-chipped with no extra power but better response, pickup and economy. "Not a chance" they said. Even the cleaning up of the breathing is considered a performance enhancement so will not be covered by a standard policy.
I'd like to see them prove you've flashed the ECU when the car is a mangled wreck!

I paid 178 TPFT, just passed my test, 0 NCB and 8 points. Still reckon I got a good deal. Garaged but probably not the best area in the world.

Agreed. Surely if you're 3rd party only, the only thing that should matter is performance/danger increasing mods? IMO, the fairing would have more effect than the respray colour.

True, but then if it not that mangled and a smart-alec assessor spots it he earns his salary by voiding my policy and forcing me into the workhouse as I am bankrupted by civil proceedings for losses (OK, worst case I know). Plus the police may decide to prosecute for not being insured.

Call me a wuss if you like but I don't like lying when I'm asked is the bike/car standard or has it been modified in any way.
