It's the rear cylinder thats not firing on the SV, so not the usual SV fender extender malarky. Pulling the front HT lead off diagnosed that one, glad the radiator only needs the one bolt undone, but the radiators got some bloody sharp bits, back of my hand looks like it's been attacked by an angry cat. Took the rear plug out and its only sparking very weakly once or twice every ten or so revolutions. Get a new plug today and the SV should be back on the road tonight. The plugs were due to be changed in 400 miles anyway. As for the bloody bandit, the rubber covers which clip onto the HT leads to cover the spark plug holes on the cylinders were not clipped into place properly (lazy mechanic last time plugs were changed!) so the left hand plug holes were full of water. So thats dried out, WD40'd and the rubbers fitted properly. Half way up a motorway slip road at 8K revs full throttle trying to keep the thing going, the two dead cylinders fired momentarily, the resulting wheelie was interesting to say the least! |

It wasn't a plug. No power getting to the HT lead it would seem, but there is 12v at the LT connector on the coil. Buggered coil perhaps? Off to the stealer it is then!! Going to end up getting my service done early 'cos theres no point in taking it all the way to Cupar just to take it back in 400 miles time.
Need tyres too, front oem dunlop has about had it and I'm fed up of the dodgy combination with the steeper profile 020 on the back. I see a set of Diablo Strada's coming up - this is going to be an expensive trip to the stealer!! |

Silicone grease put around the plugcaps of your bandit is a fix. (Same fix for front plug on SV? )Its a notorious problem on all bandits. Had the 400 (till the missus went "roamin' in the gloamin' !" ) with that problem. Bad starting, three cylinder running etc.
Don't think you can go wrong with stradas, strong rep. Lets hope you get some dry roads to use 'em! ![]() |

Well I can't wait to find out why mine is only firing on one cylinder today! Got to work by using double the revs (genius) but leaving at 7 am I don't think I'll have won any fans on the route in. Sorry neighbours.
Just called the AA (the cover that comes with a new machine - I'm RAC loyal myself) but I forgot to specifically ask for somebody who knows about bikes. Hmm. Anyway, it's a lovely day as it was yesterday (global warming, I'm all for it) and it's been all polished up and FS365d in the garage since the last time it got wet so it can't be that... Place your bets folks (coil/plug/lead/other) and lookout for the angry rant on SV Talk later. |

Here's a link to the 'rant' which turned out to be a 'whinge' instead. Oh well. Just waiting for Mickey Oates to phone...
