I guess if you take a long enough period of time (or mileage), all parts become "consumables". I would assume though that most parts, especially things like bearings, have an expected lifetime or mean time to failure (MTTF). In an ideal world, if a component fell a long way short of that expected life, then it should be covered under warranty.
If the lifetime is shortened because the manufacturer was too cheap to grease the part properly then that's not really the owners fault, it should be built to last a reasonable amount of time. Probably not a realistic view however. |

would the dudes on a service even disassemble your front end, just to grease your bearings? I doubt they'd even look at them.
probably jump around on the suspension a bit ![]() |

![]() Headrace bearings arent an item which will get repacked or removed as part of the service unless the customer asks for this to be done over and above the schedule. This is the same be it Honda, Yamaha etc etc. The adjustment though is checked and corrected if required, well we do on every service anyway. Yes they are classified as a consumable. |

I would check with another dealership to make sure.I havent been very impressed with Grays Motorcycles, such that I ride out of town to my trusty independent bike mechanic and catch the bus back when getting work done. It isn't worth the stress and works out better value.

They probably would have lasted another 50000 miles with decent grease in.
If I bought a new bike tomorrow first thing I'd do would be to strip it down and add grease where needed.

I guess this is now intentional from the manufacturers, not on penny pinching grounds but by building in the need to replace the whole bike they can sell you a new one every couple of years :S

Incidentally, my K4 has been ridden 50,000 in all weathers and there's still no perceptible play in the head bearings (not had them in bits to regrease, either). I'd be hacked off if they failed within the 60,000 mileage warranty within the first two years, if the bike had been dealer serviced at the appropriate points in that time. It's pushing the limit of what you can reasonably consider consumables IMO. |

Some interesting replies here. I think the point is all parts could be classed as consumables if Suzuki felt they could get away with it. Think of that the next time you put your indicator on. I just feel that we get great service on our cars and an equally poor service from the bike makers and service centers because we do not have a large enough voice.
I also think they eventually lose out as the only thing that you can do to voice your discontent is remove your financial support as I will do when I buy a another bike. |

If I bought a new car and a wheel bearing failed during the warranty period I think it would be replaced without argument. To call a substantial bit of the chassis/suspension "consumable" is,the more I think about it, a **** take.
