That's semi reassuring. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and have been, what I believe, patient with it being into week 4 of waiting. The bottom line is if he has sent it then where is it??? If it's lost etc etc then the decent thing to do would surely be to seek compensation from royal mail as the sellers responsibility and refund me the £25.
I know that's what i'd do........... I have requested copies of the receipts and a resolve but no reply............ Still I wait!!!!! |

Paypal will deal with it anyway and issue the refund on the sellers behalf if they can't provide proof of postage. No need to go via eBay. EBay itself charges 10% before any paypal fees are taken into account. 10%!!!!!! What a joke :O
Imagine how much that company makes every minute! |

ebay exists to make money and to sell stuff
the forum exists as a free social networking medium to talk about bikes, which also happens to allow you to post a free advert, just as you might do in a freeads paper you wouldn't phone somebody out of a freeads paper, get their account details over the phone, send them money, and trust them to send you goods if you dont go via ebay then you can't complain when it goes wrong, you knew the risk before you took it Last edited by Fordward; 12-03-13 at 03:49 PM. |

I can tell you about many silly things people do with their money (some of these people appear to be sensible) that you would not believe. Ebay developed its buyer protection policy because, guess what, people were ripping off other people there too.
Also, there are certain transactions that ebay/paypal will not protect. So ebay is no panacea for purchasing stuff from strangers. They exist to make money. They do this by encouraging us to sell stuff through their marketplace. There is a subtle difference. I sell and have stuff for sale on ebay right now. I also buy stuff via ebay from China etc. The hassle alone of listing/selling stuff and paying for the privilidge sometimes puts me off completely. At the same time, I admit its useful and I've made some very good purchases using it. But its not without its faults and Ebay have simply worked out a way to further profit from the dishonesty of some individuals and the insecurities of others. So yes, I would buy from a stranger but I wouldn't be prepared to pay an amount I wasn't prepared to lose (whether that's through ebay or the freeads). Otherwise I'll always look for guarantees. There is also the spirit of the forum. What is this? Its the intention of people to share goodwill through a common interest. There will always be some like me who want to believe in that. In the main, for me, the forum reflects this spirit whether its in giving helpful advice, offering to help people on rideouts or fixing stuff or selling stuff. Its the same intention and this is what some people are hoping can be preserved. Last edited by Runako; 12-03-13 at 04:05 PM. |

Its a sad state of affairs when we cant even put trust in our own forum members to not screw one and other over.
From reading this I'm left with two thoughts. 4 weeks is a long time to have someone waiting for something, but if other issues have held up the posting of said item then fair is fair. Post it now and on its arrival I'm certain all will be forgotten. Be honest about the post date IMO items should be allowed 28days to arrive. If they don't arrive after that time then present the receipt, if the receipt has been lost/misplaced in that time then the seller is going to have to cough up (its in their interest to ensure the item has been received). |

It would be sad if there was some qualification over and above having the brains or luck to be able to set up an email address and register required to be here.

The Org is clearly more than that. You'd vouch for Fallout right? Never met him but from general forum interaction I'd buy from him. Maybe you wouldn't from me because you don't know me or anyone who knows me but that's how life in general works. A pensioner hires a builder on recommendation of her neighbour because she trusts her neighbour even though the builder is a stranger. If the builder was a crook, then the honest neighbour wouldn't recommend, right? They may both be fools but they may have the best intentions towards each other. So to me the Org is more than a name and an email.

it's the luck of the draw.
i have sold well over 200 products on this site and there is but a handful who have actually met me. i also don't get this 'it was lost in the post' malarkie. EVERY single item i have sold and posted has reached it destination, even to far flung reaches of the world. Chill people. it's only 2 days since hopper last posted and i doubt very much that a few pennies will make it of break it for him. |
