Is it a long term prospect at the new place? any other commitments / dependents that stops your from leaving?

Do you move?

why not rent in Scotland for a wee while. Im not too keen on Edinburgh myself I prefer the west coast, despite being born and raised in the east. The money is a consideration but spending time with your family is more important. I moved from Gosport to Balloch as my hubby (ex now) was in the navy and based at Faslane. Everyone was really friendly and I made a lot of friends quickly. We divorced, met new partner and moved to sunny hampshire (no offence meant) but what a lot of unfriendly, unapproachable people. I have been here nearly 2 years and have not made any friends, toddler group mums ignore me, others who speak to me imitate my accent (really not funny). They do have horses in Scotland a nd lots of horsey event stuff. If she is determined not to move you have to decide what is best for you. Life is too short to please other people all the time

you need to find out the reasons why she won't move and why she would rather split up. Surely she understand the need of support and why you are asking for her support in doing this. You already know that they are a friendly bunch up here. I've lived here for 30 years with an english accent and its strange and there's a minority who try to make it hard BUT I would rather live here than in England ( sorry guys) they do speak to you up here and do make the effort to include you in anythign and everything they do.
As KK says is it worth renting for a while. I know my dad worked Mon-fri in Glasgow while the rest of us lived in oxford and came down at weekends. We even went up for a few weekends to see the place. Have yuo though of doing that we your family or is that a complete no-no to the mrs as well?

This is true. If she moves, is unhappy and gets depressed or whatever, then this might also cause a split. She would resent you for taking her somewhere where she isn't happy.

Right or wrong, you have to respect her feelings.

Could you not employ someone in Scotland to work for you, whilst you live with your Mrs and only get involved in the higher level stuff? I realise it would cut your earnings considerably, but it's better than dole.
