Apparently something to do with something used a lot in Chinese cookery (I want to say MSG but I'm not really that sure), so its not as unhealthy as you think, plus it tastes great! As for the McDonalds; hang your head in shame. |

![]() I am replacing all the valves and moving gubbins in the head... if they need to be replaced that is, as Im not replacing them for the heck of it.. as I will need to lap 16 valves in otherwise ![]() ![]() BUT, the oil seals will be replaced, as well as the springs and lifters, I was told to check the clearances on the camshaft journals, as this may be a cause of my engine braking problem so I am told... but am unsure as to how I go about this as I cant use feeler gauges incase it scratches something it shouldnt other than that, the previous owner may have fitted a slipper clutch on the bike and its adjusted itself.. will find that out when I open some of it up... I will not be splitting the crank case, only taking off the head and replacing the parts in there.. camshafts will be replaced as I have had the ones I got off e-bay checked and appear to be in very good condition... decided to let a few things go, and only get the bits I know I can do myself done... will get the compresion test etc done at a later date. Dont want to over complicate matters for now... and from my readings of the workshop manual, most of anything I want checking and if need be replaced can be done without splitting the crank case... unless I kill a few gears ala Stretchie ![]() p.s. Now I have threatened to open up my bikes engine by ordering most of the parts I need.. the ticking noise the bike has ben making for the past 6 months has now vanished as of today ![]() ![]() ![]() |

VB, the valve lapping tool used to be as cheap as chips from almost anywhere, try halfords. Having said that I can't say that I've seen a huge amount recently. Easy to make though, get some blue tack and new pencil. Seriousely though mate you have to lap the valves in or they are toast really quick. I can help if you get stuck. Get some valve grinding paste though. Halfords used to do it a while back.
