Not so, the only requirement is that the numbers are laid out correctly...

http://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_630a.htm

I always believed that the number plate was not even on the MOT but can find nothing on the DirectGov or VOSA websites to back this up or for that matter any talk of the number plate. Slogan wise if they were illegal then all bike dealers would have to stop putting their names on the plates of the bikes they sale.

My fav has always been "Anything more than 2 strokes is masturbation" but that wouldn't work on a SV.
Oh dear.

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/v796.pdf

Have a look at the next Police vehicle you see, dealer shouldn't be putting anything at the bottom of the plates, they just do and the police and mot places just put up with it.

Ok.......can you please point out exactly what you are 'Oh dearing' about .

Maybe my eyesight aint what it used to be but I can't see anywhere in the page(link you posted) where it says slogans are illegal.

Why would one want to be looking at a police vehicle .

Cheers
Ben
Ben, you beat me to it!

That document is only on size, spacing etc and says nothing on slogans. As for the police I thought they didn't have dealer stickers etc as that can be seen as influencing their impartiality (with the exception of the sponsored by vehicles of course).

Too late and too peshed after watching the rugger at Twickenham to argue the toss.

Dealers etc etc have no right to put anything on number plates. The only info legaly allowed is the country and the reg number, simple as.

Sorry to put the cat amongst the pigeons but I found this on the web....

* Slogans
Slogans are permitted providing they will fit into the legal area allowed by the DVLA. We are also required by law to place our name and postcode on the plate, however, this will be very discreet.

Also found this on DVLA...

The British Standard
The British Standard sets out the physical characteristics of the number plate. This includes visibility, strength and
reflectivity. The British Standard also requires each number plate to be permanently and legibly marked with the
following information:-

1. The British Standard number (currently BS AU 145d)
2. The name, trade mark or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier
3. Name and postcode of the supplying outlet

Offences

It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers in order to form names or words or in such a way that makes it difficult to read the registration number. Characters must not be moved from one block to the other e.g. AB51 DVL must not be displayed as AB5 1DVL or AB 51DVL. Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM
FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn.

I almost went for

"My other toy has t*ts" or

"Rides better than your wife"

But eventually went for...

"Where's me stabilisers?"

I thought it was funny, but then I am easily pleased.
