Does anyone here ride a 2 stroke? I'm looking for some recommendations on road tyres for a TZR250. I've never bought tyres for it before so don't know what to go for.
The sizes are 120/80-17 100/80-17 |

See if some modern sports rubber will fit. A few shakey wild eyed types I know swear by BT45's but they're getting on a bit now. Don't know enough to give a proper recommendation though.

Im Indoors used to swear by BT45s but like chris says, think they've been superceded by something better. You need super sticky ones on. Unfortunately hes at my house at the mo and he can't remember what hes currently got on the RGV running gear on his YPVS...

I know but there are only a few makes available for the sizes I need, and I don't know which are good/bad

I used to swear by Bridgestone BT 39's when I was riding 2 strokes, found them grippy with plenty of feel but they're not a high mileage tyre.

Dunlop Alpha 10s are the new in thing, if they do them in the sizes you need. The racing boys run a 130 on the rear on standard rims, and a 140 if you can find a TZR125RR rear wheel which is 3.5inch.

IMO, you won't get anything gripper than a BT45 in those sizes. I have a set of TZR wheels that will be fitted to my 350LC at some point and have researched tyres for them quite extensively. I'm lucky in that mine are a later model with wider rim sizes which means I can stretch to a 110/70 front and a 130/70 rear but I think these would be over size on the 1989 rim sizes.
I would recommend against fitting oversize tyres for the road. HTH.
