I've bought a radiator fan for my SV but it's come yet and my mother has just booked my bike in with a garage to fix it without me knowing but the fan isn't here yet, now i have never noticed my fan turn on, would it be ok to ride without the fan for a while till it turns up or will it be needed?

What temperature does your bike generally get up to? The fan should kick in at about 103 deg.C

I'd personally would not ride the bike with out the fan being present.
but that is only my opinion.

Given that we are in the cooler part of the year, and dependant on where the service place is, I would ride it with one eye on the gauge.
Quite frankly I reckon a lot of people ride without a functioning fan, especially on the Curvy as they don't have a gauge. I only discovered mine didn't cut in on a particularly hot day in France one year. That was a faulty sender. |

i do plan to fit it whe it comes, just wanna get back on road, so if i ride nicely and not thrash it, it should be ok?

I think it will be fine! I have a bent radiator and so the fan rubs against the housing. I have never had it turn on as my bike rarely gets above 95. I also unplugged it round Croatia so the fan didn't come on and burn itself out banging against the housing. Temp still rarely went over 100. If the very worst happens and your temp goes over 105, (like mine did sitting in traffic at the weekend actually!) just pull over and turn off the engine, or do what I did which was leave the traffic jam and ride faster so it cooled down

Further to pete's post up there, a previous owner fitted a temp gauge to my curvy; its not wholly accurate, but it does give an indication that the bike both heats up in traffic, cools down when I am moving and most importantly the fan kicks in. I've never seen the little red light on the dash come in, and I have noticed my fan cutting in and cutting out in traffic, so there must be effective cooling occuring
![]() To aid cooling, if you are worried, keep the engine oil topped up. |

personally i shouldnt see the prob with riding it... it should be ok (providing you have the right oil/coolant level) the hottest point is usualy wen its left ticking over for a while or when you thrash it then come to a stand still etc. should be fine to ride in my opinion.
