Hi
My '06 SV650S sometimes slips out of 2nd gear, on both acceleration and decelaration. It only tends to happen on acceleration when I'm accelerating harder. On deceleration, it happens when it fancies, which is 'kin scary, specially when youre expecting the engine braking to slow you enough not to go into the back of a car. Does anyone have any diagnosis for this problem? Merci |

Could be selector forks bent, could be the dogs on the gear pinion are rounded off.
Hopefully it could also be something much easier to sort out. fingers crossed for you

I'd start with the simple things like chain adjustment and clutch adjustment, are they both set up correctly?

Well im getting an 8000 mile sevice at the beginning of July. I hope that'll solve it.
As far as I'm aware, the chain is the right tension. The clutch; not so sure. I'm no expert, I jus give the bike to garages n hope they sort it. The lever feels a lil loose, with about an inch of play. |

I'd suspect it would be chain issue on a relatively young pointy, had the same thing happen on mine, adjusted the tension (watching out for tight spots on the chain as mine had done more miles) and gave it a good clean and oil and it was right as rain. hopefully something simple.

Mine does that on occasion, yet mine has done 65k and i do a lot of clutchless up and down changes and ride consistantly through london, so would sort of expect it.
As The stretchie one said, check chain and clutch adjustment and i hope you check your chain between services? Also make sure when you click it into gear it goes, sometimes mine is because i dont push the lever home fully! |

adjust chain
adjust clutch clean and lube the gear lever pivot - this cured it for me. You have to get lube in there some how. wd40 to clean the joint, then light oil to get down in there. |

As above but it could also be lazy gear changing. By this I mean not being positive enough when shifting the gear pedal up or down.
Like Viney said. ![]() |

My 08 sport slips out of gear quite often, always after a clutchless change up and usually as I'm accelerating hard and all of a sudden, revs are screaming and there's a lack of forward motion! Can happen a good 5-10 seconds AFTER the change up too
