Can anyone identify this part?

I just changed the chain and sprockets on my pointy SV and at some point the part in the photo fell to the ground. I've not seen it before and not sure where it came from. Does anybody recognise it? I've been out for a short test ride and everything seems fine but if it came from the bike I'm sure the designers at suzuki put it there for a reason!

From the description of what you were doing but without anything else in the picture to use as a size reference I'd still put a lot of money on that being your rear wheel spacer. This spacer sits between the outside of the hub and the swing arm on the chain side.

Please do not ride your bike without this in it is unsafe.

Take the rear wheel out and replace the spacer. Ensure that the spacer on the right hand side is also in there correctly. Without the spacer in the wheel can move side to side. This is dangerous. It can also cause damage other parts, there is a picture somewhere of someone who was missing a wheel spacer on a SV, the sprocket bolts cut into the swingarm. Exceedingly dangerous.

Thanks for the reply, this does look like a spacer but it's about 6-7mm diameter so definitely not the back wheel spacer, they are definitely both in.
Sorry, I should have said this fell from the front sprocket area of the bike. It could even be something that has dropped into the bike and just became dislodged as I was working.. But I would like to be sure

It looks to be about the right size to fit around the pin that engages/disengages the clutch but I couldn't see where it would fit if so

That really does look like a wheel spacer, but if its that small a size then I think its safe to rule that out then. But have a look over here for what happens if they are not fitted and why I was a little concerned.

As for what you have then, I can't be sure. I have a couple of ideas such as an insert from the sprocket cover bolt thread holes or a bolt spacer in the rear fairings, but others might have some better ideas...

Jesus that's nasty, amazing it got that bad before being noticed too.
Could well be from the sprocket cover, I've not yet put that back on so will have a look tomorrow. Thanks!

thats the spacer that sits inside the chain carrier. it sits in the area behind the carrier next to the cushdrive and against the wheel. its hidden from view when you out everything together but its an important part.

Looks like a grommet from a bolt hole on some plastic cover...

Thanks for the reply but all 3 spacers definitely went back in at that end. Also the part is much smaller, about 6-8mm so wrong size for that part of the bike

Didn't look to be from the front sprocket cover when I looked this morning.. I don't believe there were any other plastic covers removed for this job..
