Hi there, after having introduced myself recently in the non bike-related forum section, I now need someone's expertise:
Has anyone ever tried to replace the entire brake light on a curvy SV? (K1) - I have bought a very nice LED brake light, and in the Heyne's manual it all looks so simple to replace it, but haha, in reality it looks as if I have to remove the whole rear fairing which is held down by 4 big screws - and that is where the problem starts!!! two of the screws are under the driver's seat, and the other two under the pillion seat - BUT NONE OF THEM MOVE, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE SCREW DRIVER IS! (I want to state here, that I have obviously not tried to loosen the screws myself, saying that I haven't got that much confidence in the power of my girly arms) My SV was born in 2001, and I think noone has ever attempted to loosen those bloody screws. So in short: Who had a similar problem and who can help? what do I have to do? Thanx loads 4 any replies! All the best, Nadine |

Hi Nadine, do you actually mean changing the 2 OE filament bulbs to LED ones?
Never heard of a complete replacement Rear light. Ben |

In that case- undo the 2 screws in the back of the brake light (the ones that you can see when you look at the bike from right behind) and remove the lens, then change the bulbs and the plastic bit- that's all that's different. You ought to be able to get the fairing off though, is it screws? I thought it had bolts as standard (mine are all allen headed, but not original)

Hi Nadine,
We have the same clear light, and had no problems at all removing the plastics. Unfortunately, our bike isn't here at the moment or I'd nip out and see if I could figure out your problem. I'd go with Northy's suggestion, far easier way to go about it. ![]()

Ah, yeah, I remember, they're big domed browny-green screws aren't they. If you want to shift them- and you should, they're not getting any less stuck- you want a hand impact driver, and some Plus Gas (It shifts stuck bolts and screws like people think WD40 does

Those screws are made of cheese so be careful, if they aren't going to move try the impact driver (cause you get to use a hammer!).
You will also need to take the grab rail off, and if I remember correctly (cause I took mine out ages ago) there are also 2 screws underneath the fairing at the back. Once all this is off give it a little tug cause there are a couple of lugs that hold it all in place. HTH |

You are right, the light looks like a normal clear light on the picture, but it is actually a LED light, so there are a lot of little dots in it, not two bulbs, but I think my best option is to get one of this impact driver! All the best, Nadine |
