Beautiful run today to Glenfinnan. The roads were mostly brilliant apart from how busy they were with people on holiday. Couldn't have asked for better weather!
Unfortunately they have put average speed cameras on the Tyndrum road, which kinda spoils any runs out west for me, as it's the only logical route. It's only for a short stretch of the road though.

Great scenery!
Great pictures. I lived in Texas for a year and that was so flat it made the Fens look bumpy. I think mountains make for great scenery - maybe because they remind us how small we are? I wish Lincolnshire had a bit more elevation - our highest point (which I ride past regularly) is 168m/551 ft. Having said that I like the slow undulations of the Wolds...

yes and the best biking roads in Scotland. that whole 'Aberdeenshire' area is bonkers good. just as good if not better than what the west coast has to offer including less midge.

Early morning hour excursion on the way to work.
(Unfortunately to try and recover some items that I lost by riding up Cheddar Gorge the other day with my Kriega tail bag undone. On the plus side I did get to ride The Gorge twice with no traffic on it as opposed to the other day when it was rammed with the usual unpredictable tourist dodgems..definitely not a worthwhile ride)
This was a quick stop at Chew Lake to take the (very cold) early morning chill off en route.

You surprise me Adam...… NOT! ;)
I've never ridden knobblies on road before.. at least not with a motor turning them. Very near lowsided when I had the front end lock up and slide out braking in a straight line. Luckily let go just in time and recovered it. Not quite sure how I managed that. Also had the back wheel slide out just leaving a junction very carefully at about 10mph. To be fair the very cold damp roads were not the best conditions for any tyres.

i have always been under the assumption of "private roads" means just that and your not allowed access. well i as wrong.
“Private Roads” are those roads which are not on the List of Public Roads. The public, however, have a right of passage over these roads and the owner(s) of a private road may not restrict or prevent the public’s right of passage over the road. In terms of the Roads (Scotland) Act “Private Road” therefore simply means “Privately Maintained Road”.
i think this does not apply to "gated and locked" roads as these may be peoples drives. so next time i or indeed you see a road marked "private road" in Scotland its a lie.

Google won't let you plan the entire loop because there are a couple of farmers gates (which you are allowed to use) at the south west corner of the loop.

At that point I'd been trying to lift it for a couple of minutes resulting in me sinking deeper into the mud and the bike sliding further under water. I was taking a few seconds to recover my breath. I can lift the DRZ fairly easily on flat dry land normally, but the mud sucking it down and my lack of footing underwater made it really difficult. I'm aching today.

Oh that looks brilliant for exploring! How do you like it?
Adam Ef
05-09-21, 08:16 AM
It's great. Not light at just under 200kg, but very low weight with the weird fuel tanks. Never been a fan of KTM styling so I've never looked into them much. I test rode one though and was so impressed with the ride that it made it easy to look past the aesthetics. So many little well though out details too. And the suspension on the R version is really good, which is a big part of why it's so good as a bike. That and the engine had a vey immediate feel like smaller dirt bikes. It feels more like a big dirt bike than a small adventure bike. Way too much power then needed for off road though really. But it does a great job of spending a few hours on road between off road sections too, which the DRZ isn't so great at.
I've still got the DRZ. OUt on it yesterday and it felt like a really fun toy after riding the KTM. I was going to think about selling it if the KTM ticked all boxes, but I've a feeling I'll end up keeping it if possible. I have the supermoto wheels for it too so will probably fit something really aggressive tread on the off road wheels and use the supermotos for road tyres. Then I can keep the KTM on dual 50/50 tyres and use the DRZ for winter mud trails. I wouldn't fancy getting the KTM out of boggy puddles in winter. It's more of a dry dirt trails bike. A good commuter and winter travel bike too.
Took the DRZ out yesterday and the relative lightness immediatley made me feel more comfortable pushing it and heading for some harder areas after being on the bigger KTM. The DRZ is staying for now.

Nice spot to sit and watch the world go (slowly) by.
And a very picturesque bridge.

In lieu of the Border Patrol rideout, I gave myself a much needed day off zig zagging around the Brecon Beacons. Found some amazing and fairly quiet roads and scenery. Life has felt too much like all work recently, so great to get out and breathe. Very pleased I've kept the Street Triple too. Loved riding it today.

Making me jealous now Adam. I've been looking at the weather all day and thinking how nice it would be to go out on the bike. Sat on it yesterday evening and as soon as I lifted my right foot up onto the footrest I had a bolt of pain shoot down my leg. So no riding till it's mended. :smt022
Looks like you had a good ride.

Lovely pic Adam
I did intend to go out for a ride today but due to a poor nights sleep I felt it safer to keep off the bike. Yawn!

Gary, you'll be glad to know I stuck it to Morrisons in Brecon by parking the bike round the side near the service entrance so didn't have to go through the *pay for parking and reclaim it* song and dance this time.

Got out on the DRZ. Skidded about. Fell off twice. Second time was actually what I'd call a crash and left hand is hurting a bit now. All fun though. Found a bit more of the TET.
A warm day but I froze coming home as the light went from the sky. Also learnt quickly how crap the headlight is at night on the DRZ. I had to check it was still working at one point.

Hand is just aching today. No swelling.
The point at which I realised my tyres are terrible in wet mud... it doesn't really show in the video, but the rear of the bike was squirming all over the place...

Another "might be the last of the good weather so better go for a ride" day out. Back to the Brecon Beacons on the Street Triple. By the time I got to the new road I wanted to try (A4069 "Mountain Road") it was misting rain making the tarmac very sketchy, so had to take it very easy. Plenty of good views on the way though...

And some bad views too...

Good to be out in the nature :-) ...

Last minute decision to grab the good weather. Gary and I managed to meet up and ride some of Wales' finest scenery. Another great day out.

It was a really enjoyable day of riding. The roads and the views here in Wales never disappoint.
