This will probably do wonders for France's reputation in the US.

(I'm serious.)

My £0.02.

Italy won the world cup and they were certainly not the most skillful or elegant team out there. A bit of a anti-climax in my view. The French deserved it more over the tournament.

Zidane's head butt was the header of the tourament for me. It had both power and direction :D Won the game too...for Italy. :P

Argentina should have played better against the Germans and not play for the 1-0.
Portugal need to find a centre forward. Brazil played the fat lad and paid for it. Germany were my favourite side,

It is odd that England are blaming Sven and C.Ronaldo but what about Lampard not turning up? Beckham being rubbish? Rooney sent off? Owen's injury? The actions of the WAGs?

Too much cheating and diving too. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

I agree with The Basket. This was an easilly forgetable tournament. From the English perspective I think we do presently have a very talented squad, but what value is there in that when all of the creative players appeared so mentally shackled?

Too much diving is the common theme at the moment. I don't think these incidents have been any worse than in many other World Cup's tbh. W scream at Ronaldo yet know that his normal game in the Premier League does not involve such antics? Team orders perhaps?

A possible question might be,why were the officials wearing those head sets? If not to be informed of "untoward" goings on? It appeared to work for the Zidane incident as I do not believe for one second any of the on field officials saw it as it was way behind play. Even the linesman that was consulted I feel sure was advised "from upstairs".

I think to clean the game up properly the only way is to scrutinise every game afterwards and apply fitting punishement.

The only problem with that is of course a player that might have been red carded remains on the pitch and could influence the result of the game.

Maybe sin binning for diving? :?

One team and one player didn't shine...a shame.

I was amazed how tired and knackered both the French and Italians looked last night.

They should do a fair days work for a fair days pay and then see how tired they feel :D

I think the World Cup was a bit of a tease but isn't everything in life a letdown?

Except the SV 650 S of course...spesh in black

Oh well, it's over. I can now look forward to the Rugby World Cup 2007.

Come on Wales!!!!!!!

A southern hemisphere team will win though.

Come on Wales!!!!!!!

 Good luck with that.
NZ probably has not only the best team in the world, they probably have the second best one too.

The All-Blacks are scary. We just toured out there, and we did well-ish, ie we lost everything, but only just.
But, I think that says more about Ireland being good than the Blacks.

I am sure that Felipe will be pleased to learn that Portugal won the award for "most entertaining" team of the world cup. I am not quite sure if the award was made in a theatrical sense or footballing one.

Italy won? Italy won what - a game of football? That's not what I saw happen.

Italy won the game of 'rock-paper-scissors' that took place after the game of football had been drawn.

Has the game ever been so debased as by the farce of penalties to decide an event of the magnitude of the World Cup?

In the aftermath of "The Rooney" incident I think people are forgetting that Ronaldo is indeed an exceptional talent. Ok he needs at times to harness the talent and the tricks and use them more sparringly...and so possibly more effectively. But the kid is only 21 years of age.

Dont tell me a coach like Rafa Benitez or Jose Mourinho would not bring the best out of him and would not be pleased to have him in their teams? :?

Ronaldo has a lot of tricks and often little end product, just like Joe Cole, Pires and Giggs were accused of (and I think Mr Henry when he was with Juventus) so I wouldn't write him off just yet.

So come on folks...what is a more acceptable format for deciding something as big as the World Cup final than the lottery of a penalty shoot out?

A panel of judges to cast votes on the two teams performances?

A tally of genuine scoring chances created over the game?

What would be a workable suggestion?

I dont think you can start removing players from each time as after all we are talking of an 11 a side compettition? There must be something?

Replay, or keep playing til their legs drop off. I don't mind penalties, it's only a game.

Throw a ball onto the pitch every five minutes till someone scores

Nah, for the finals just let them play on, Golden Goal.

Law...But the penalties very rarely do not produce the true winner on the night? France were the better team and created more chances for the majority of the match yesterday but came second.

I like the idea of making them keep playing but the paymasters,(TV networks) would not sanction that I am sure. :?

It would appear that the racist nature of Materazzi's comments to Zidane are gaining momentum. He of course denies using any such language,(which is only to be expected of course!)

Have the best team always won the game in 90 minutes? I've watched teams dominate a game and not score , only to concede a goal in the dying minutes and lose. Life isn't fair, why should football be?

Klinnsmann done well and goes.

The German media slag him off for two years and then beg him to stay.

Fair play to the man. Show them how good you are and then tell them to sod off.

You will have to fight off the US for him I would imagine.
He already lives out here. If they come walzting in with a big bag of cash, I think he might take it.
Do a half arsed job.
Buy a nice gaff in the Algarve.
Call it a day.
Sweeeet.

Peter Henry

Phil...I think there is a big chance that Jurgen would take the USA job if offered to him. Makes so much sense if you think about it?

philipMac
14-07-06, 03:24 PM
Exactly.
You know that they are going to have a serious belt of cash with them.
And, compared to that scuttering gobsheen that previously managed the US team, he will look like a god.
Not that he isnt one. Obviously.

To be fair... I think both England and Ireland have very little to look forward to WRT their new managers.

Espec Ireland. Steve Staunton. Shudder.

Lets not think about football. Its about time that we produced a good cyclist. Another Sean Kelly if you dont mind. Hard as nails.

Or win the triple crown. Yet again.
