I've drawn Saudi Arabia in the draw at work might have had more fun setting fire to five pounds.

Yes...beat Paraguay and Trinidad...draw against Sweden...
Should beat either Germany Or Poland....
Easy job
Also at work we have a few lads down from our factory in Scotland doing some training for a few months so yesterday we played England the album all afternoon they really liked it in the end.
I've got my quid on Italy in the office sweep stakes. I hope the football teams more reliable than the electrics on a Duke, or I'm out of pocket!
England will actually know who wins the other group before they play Sweden.
I got England, USA, Brazil and costa rica in my draw at work
I think we can win it

i agree. need a bit of luck along the way, all winning teams do, i'd say we're due a bit of good fortune. but luck aside i feel we've a great chance. a very good goalkeeper, back 4 are solid, midfield i'd say is in the top 3 strongest midfields in the tournament. we could be weak upfront if rodney doesn't play, but then it could be an opportunity for somebody else to step up to the plate.
win or runners up in our group, i'd fancy our chances against anybody in group A (most likely to be poland or germany), i don't think we'd face brazil til the final, but who cares, bring them on too.

Ignore the glitz and colour of teams like Brazil,Italy and Argentina. As mentioned, with a fair share of luck England really do have as good a chance as anyone to win it! Not sure they will mind. :?
I drew Ghana and USA in the 'at work' sweepstake. I've heard the Ghana only have five players, one of which is a camel...is this true?
Anyway, my big news is that Mrs.Stingo has suggested that I go the pub (something that doesn't happen very often) to watch England on Saturday  I therefore will not be at home until tea time, a fact I have not yet mentioned. I also might have some form of speech impediment.
Can't wait....mines a large one...what's yours?

Well I hope that funny little chubby boy with the throbbing toe enjoys himself.
I pray that the arrogance of the hero of the host nation's team can be erased quickly.
But my biggest wish is that we remember the tournament for brilliant pieces of technique, amazing goals and remarkable performances.
Rather than headlines of barbaric yob behaviour and how teams were robbed or cheated due to incompetent officials and play acting of so called professional athletes.
I guess I am something of a dreamer. :?

Being a passionate club team season ticket holder and having certain dislikes of certain individuals I find it very difficult to get enthusiastic about England these days which is a shame as I used to love Internationals. I'm hoping I feel an urge to clamber aboard the bandwagon but it's nice not really caring either way too.
Obviously England CAN win, anyone can. Don't think we will consistently beat the better teams. May have a good win against one of the better countries then go out around the quarters or semi's which, in all honesty, is probably our rightful level in World football.
Good start six goals in the opening game.
Paulo Wanchope what a player.

Well, not a very exciting first game but we did win. The referee made a few dodgy decisions imho. Beckham played one of his classic shots...and some bloke from Paraguay actually fell down, got up and then fell down again whwen he realised the ball wasn't in the net!! Knobbb!!

Looking at T&T they might not have the footballing skill of some squads out there, but they have an amazing fitness level and such a desire to win that they just never say die.
Watching the England match, we were nothing in the second half. A team full of stars that just can't seem to work together. Hope they gel soon and then learn how to keep possesion.
Come on England!

Seen some good sides like Ivory Coast and the Argies.

Hope we get Poland though. :D

I was impressed with Ecuador yesterday (although I only saw about 20 mins of the game). Germany may have knocked four in but (assuming we get through) I think I'd rather face them based on what I saw. I reckon Ecuador might just turn the Germans over on Tuesday week.

A World Cup Joke (Sorry if I shouldn't have posted here)! :?
A German family head out one Saturday to do some shopping.
While in the sports shop the son picks up an England football shirt and
says to his sister, "I've decided to be an England supporter and I would
like this for my birthday."
His big sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him round the
head and says, "Go talk to your mother."
So off goes the little lad with the white and red football shirt in hand
and finds his mother.
"Mum?"
"Yes son?"
"I've decided I'm going to be an England supporter and I would like this
shirt for my birthday".
The mother is outraged at this, promptly whacks him around the head
twice and says, "Go talk to your father."
Off he goes with the football shirt in hand and finds his father.
"Dad?"
"Yes son?"
"I've decided I'm going to be an England supporter and I would like this
shirt for my birthday."
The father is outraged and promptly whacks his son around the head 4
times and says:
"No son of mine is ever going to be seen in THAT!"
About half an hour later they're all back in the car and heading towards
home.
The father turns to his son and says;
"Son, I hope you've learned something today?"
The son says,
"Yes dad I have."
"Good son, what is it?"
The son replies,
"I've only been an England supporter for an hour and already I hate you

Marko....What is the point in playing your best football at this stage and then have nothing left in the locker for the more testing knock out stage? Impressing now does not win the competition. The aim is to get through, nothing more and nothing less.

Portugal did just that, and just like Scolari says, "only 6 games to go".
Ok, we played like cr@p. Selfish gameplay, and technically awful. Two big no-no's when together. And Cristiano Ronaldo must have left his lucky charm at home... Our victory over Angola was above all a matter of luck, let's hope we can do better (gameplay) against Iran.

Quite a few bad referee decisions in that game though, the penalty / sending off being one. Also, Ukraine had what seemed a disproportionate amount of offside decisons go against them, Shevchenko was just laughing & shaking his head at the linesman by the end! The second half could have been a whole different story...

Southgate reckons that the score DOESN'T flatter England because for the last 15 minutes they were all over T & T ?? !!!!
I would say that the score WAS extremely flattering given the ineptitude of the entire team.
Crouch (with the exception of the goal) seemed to be hell-bent on theatrics - I haven't seen a worse attempt at a bicycle kick since I was at Junior school (& yes, it it was an attempt by me  )
Beckham only produced 2 or 3 decent crosses - ok, one resulted in the first goal but otherwise a pretty shoddy display by the Captain.
Gerrard was trying - but as has already been mentioned, seemed uncomfortable in the role he's been given.
Robinson - well I can only assume he's spent his evenings studying the David James book on goalkeeping !!
The only England player in my book that can claim to have had a halfway decent game was John Terry.
Still, as they say - we can only get better - & boy do we need to !!
Quiff, the yellow cards don't matter - after the group stage they get binned - all players get to start again from scratch apparently :D
