Default Selling a bike frame with V5 ?

As title, but buyer is on sarf coast and wants me to post, the V5 has to be signed by seller and buyer right?

How do I do this, do I trust buyer to send the signed bit back ?

Anybody done this and have some advise please.

Tia, Tj

I just filled in both bits with the details required and added a vague signature. Stuck their slip in with the frame and posted the rest to the DVLA. At the end of the day what are they going to check the signature against anyway?

Hehe, well what usually happens is the buyer promises to send the V5 off, then promptly forgets about it because it's an ongoing project/pipe dream and the next thing you've got a fine for not SORNing it...

So better to send it off to the DVLA yourself with a scribble on signature bit or blank with a note saying it was sold at a distance

If you no longer have your registration certificate V5C
If you don't have a registration certificate you can still tell DVLA that you no longer have the vehicle.
To do this you will need to write to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AR giving the:
  • vehicle registration mark
  • make and model
  • exact date of sale
  • name and address of the new keeper
However, note that DVLA records won’t be complete until the new keeper tells DVLA in writing. Until they do, the police may need to contact you if they have to make enquiries about the vehicle.

Send the V5 first. Once that has been completed, send the frame.

+1

When I sold my bike to someone in Kent he sent his mate to come pick it up, so I gave the V5 to him. Took well over 6 months for the buyer to finally register it to his name
