Heading southbound on the A49 it changes from a dual-carriageway into a 4-lane road, with two filter-lanes either side of the dual carriageway. The filter-lane to turn right then has a piece of kerb sticking out for some unknown reason, and then goes back into being a filter-lane again to turn right towards the house.
Couple of things though...

1. There's a big reflective "keep left" bollard on the island
2. There's no "right filter" arrow directing traffic into that lane

They're not the same filter lane with a kerb sticking out, they're two separate filter lanes with an island to prevent traffic from the first running on into the second

Looking at the historical imagery on Google Earth there used to be a junction into the area around the "Total Fitness" sign, which was removed when the industrial estate was constructed, but the gap that used to be a right turn for southbound traffic now only serves as a right turn for northbound traffic into Ireland St

It's perhaps a little counter intuitive, but the road markings and signage are there..

Might be worth suggesting to the local highways dept that they extent the eastern kerb on that first "right turn" island to stop people using it when they really want the next turning...

Thanks for the well-wishes guys, believe it or not i'm actually in work today! the painkillers are making me feel a bit funky though so i'm not sure how productive i'll be. One-handed typing is bloody slow too!

thankfully i'm right-handed so i'm still ok doing most stuff for myself, IYKWIM

those of you that commented on the road layout & signage etc - I'm pretty sure the bollard that can be seen on Google street view was not there last night. Given that my parents hit the same bit of central reservation in their car on the way to see me in A&E i think that tells you just how invisible that little bit of kerb is. even the A&E staff commented on it as lots of them drive past it on the way to the hospital (the bloke working the x-ray dept said he actually drove past my accident on the way to start his shift )

I've got an appointment for the fracture clinic on Weds, so will hopefully find out just how bad it is and can start on the road to recovery.

In the meantime at least I have some time to fix the bike up! It needed a new chain & sprockets anyway...

Sounds like a definite problem area, if there is no bollard I can easily see why folks might think it was the filter lane

Definitely moan at the highways department and get it fixed

GWS!
I beat that....I was 9 and going out to play with my best friend....stood in the doorway listening to the list of do's and don't's being reeled off by my mum and didn't notice my foot was inside the handle f my mums handbag that was on the floor. I stepped out, puuling the door shut behind me and next thing I knew, I woke up on the sofa. Apparently my legs stopped and I went shoulder first into the ground, knocking myself out to boot .

Hurt like hell and had to carry my head to one side for weeks or I'd scream. Rest it up Sax and do what the good doctors tell you

Steve...you know how your arm felt after our 6stone dog had been lying on it for an hour......you went upstairs for a little fun with a stranger ....maybe it could be like that for Andy when the pain subsides...lol.

Disclaimer - The above was a joke, he didn't bother going upstairs
