I'd be tempted to split the left hand switch gear (with your choke lever on) take off the cable a spray some lubricant down it, put it back together then pack the splitter with grease. Also double check your front spark plug is protected from water like others have said

No need to split the switchgear down, as the choke lever assembly isn't an intergral part. All you have to do is slacken off the clutch lever pinch bolts on the handlebar an slide the clutch lever asembly out of the way to get to the choke.

I had a choke cable (on another bike) part in cold weather, as water had got down the cable and froze, so checking the cable for free play and lubricating it is a good idea.

Everything sounded, looked good, and started fine...

The bike looked fine under the covers but the plunger screws were in far to tight and I didn't fancy rounding them. To do them I'd want to have the bike in my garage with all my tools. But the choke operated fine while I was there.

Didn't think of greasing the splitter while we were there but its not to difficult to do. Lift the tank and take the air box off and then pack the splitter with grease. The splitter is on the left hand side near the front. Just follow the cable from the plunger back to the joint. It is the item in the red circle in the pic below, the green is the plunger on the opposite side we were looking at.

As for the front plug, look for it behind the fairing around the red circle area in the pic below. Remember the rear one I showed you, its the same at the front. Smear some grease around the outside of the cap so it creates a seal around the the hole when you push it back on.

If you need talking through I'm happy to pop over again and supervise, let me know. Oh, and no one mentions my photochop skillz or else.

My 2000 curvy does the high-revs-once-warm trick and I found that wriggling the choke cable splitter made it all drop back down to normal. Everything else is standard and runs fine so I'm guessing it's a cable/plunger problem.

Annoyingly it's not that easy now to persuade the revs to return to normal. Now I know you can get into the splitter I'll have a look at oiling the lower cables at the weekend. The bar-to-splitter bit was easy to lube but had no effect.

If funds permit however I may just go to see SpannerMan instead...
