This is my firts post and i thought i should say hi. My name is Joy and i have a 2002 Sv650 which i have had now for just over 2 years.

What i would like to know is, would a swinging arm off a 600 or 750 srad fit on my sv. if it won't, what have others fitted if changed.

Think the easy answer is yes its possible, but not without a lot of work & tools.

If it was an easy swap loads would have done it.

Check Svrider.com as the American's tend to do a lot of this kind of mod, but most do singled sided swingarm swaps.

Nillie changed his for a GSR600 swingarm, which loooks well nice.

check that out for some images of custom SV's

popular swing arm mod with the yanks seems to be the 696 single sided swing arm.

Not all of us!

Welcome to the Org Joy, probably the nicest site on the whole of the internet. If you use the search function I think that you should find a thread by an Eastern European Guy called Kuku, he fitted a JMC arm to his bike. The hardest part for him was waiting for the thing to arrive!

Try here for the whole story.

Cheers, Jayne (a spanner wielding SV goddess! )

On the subject of the GSR600 arm: Nillie said that the frame needed modification and the addition of 3 spacers. From my experiments the frame needs to be widened at the swing arm pivot, but I don't know if that is with or without the internal GSR bushes/ spacers for the swing arm bolt. Off the top of my head if the bushes are needed it starts to get very close to the bolt thread if you grind equally on both sides. Alternatively it might be possible to grind the arm, but I would expect that will throw up other problems with the pivots internals and their bearings, I would check this approach with an engineers. The spacers I believe are for the shock mounts as they need to be off set slightly. The main downside to the GSR arm is its weight. It ain't light. Far from it. I don't have the weights written down and can't check at the moment as its all in storage but I think your looking at doubling the arm weight against stock.

Now I do myself have another arm in mind but need to do some more research to see if it will fit as it is a little wider at the pivot which makes me wonder if the rear wheel would then line up with the sprocket. But one of the things to ask while people are looking would be is it possible and or practical to have the arm professionally shortened at the pivot point?
