It's a steel bar on a steel axle stand, it tends to slide about if it has any sideways pressure on it and knock the stand over, so I find using a jack to lift under the engine, just to the left or right of the centre of gravity, depending on which side you want to lift, gives the best stability whilst lifting.

you lot are nuts .... abba stand and car jack under bike = sorted and you can remove both wheels and forks and shock and and and and all at the same time works for me lol

I didn't say it was a sensible or safe way to do it.

Centre stand and a scissor jack for me. Have front and rear paddock stands as well though so i dont think i'll be stuck really.

I've got one, but it lifts the forks, which are kind of missing from most of these photos...

I have 3 fronts 2 x underforks and 1 under yoke but this thread is about removing the front wheel. I'd recommend the Motrax ones with spring loaded fork cups which are very good and robust, but most of their other stuff (tyre warmers etc) is poo.

I just prefer the sidestand and trolley jack method, you can get whole front end including yokes out then which is important to service head bearings or do fork swap.

I too use the t-jack and sidestand but love the step ladder way! If i go to my Father-in-laws garage I can use the electronic hoist too. I wouldn't mind a head stock stand? Are they any good?
