Proper Monkey Bikes are rarer and more expensive. Pit bikes can be bought road legal much cheaper and are basically the same thing, they also come in "off road" style, or Supermoto depending on taste. They are all Chinese copies but quality is improving and the web is full of all the things you need to fix/glue/replace to stop them falling apart immediately.
Personally I'd feel a little vulnerable on one, but there is a whole bunch of lads round where I live that turn up at the biker meets on them so I guess there's safety in numbers! |

I don't feel so stupid now for wanting a tuned Honda Zoomer---might be taking my downsize thread to the extreme though
No discomfort on long distances as you can lift it into the back of the car ![]() |

You need to talk to BaP, for while daylight shines he is cluttering up my garage wondering why the front break leaver doesn't stop the rear wheel from turning, but when night falls he turns into Scooterman...

Thanks for the thoughts all, it's firmly on the list now, in August I'm getting back on ebay and buying one.
I quite like the idea of turning up at Box Hill or Loomies (local bike cafe) with all leathers on and making out its my normal bike, definitely don't fancy the trip to the AR on one. I didn't realise pitbikes could be road legal, that's another option but not quite the comedic value of a monkey, but then i like the idea of being able to go off road. Off road on a monkey? Nah OK, maybe pitbike next year. What makes are these monkeys apart from the Honda originals? All Chinese stuff like the pitbikes? No mate, not quite that bad, but I could get there quite quickly. ![]() ![]() |

Sounds like fun, I saw some UK ones at the 'Ring which were on a Euro tour!! They had been tuned and big bore engine kits fitted, they weren't allowed on track as they couldn't prove from their paperwork that they could do over 90km/h.

Couple of bloke locally have some very tricked up ones, USD forks, piggy back shocks, 140cc big bores etc, I think the ones to get have a Loncin engine, which is a chinese company that builds industrial engines and the new BMW 650 singles so they're going to put up with a fair bit of abuse.
