good stuff, have fun on the weekend with the newly vamped Bucket! x
OK, so thats the last evening fettling out of the way and its really starting to come together as a race bike now instead of just a collection of sext parts. I've not got my cable here for uploading photos so I'll try and upload them from my mobile a little later.
I got the HQ at 6.30 last night and immediately got stuck into the bike. The Akrapovic parts that arrived were going to need some machining to fit so that was the first thing to do. 15 minutes later the parts were sorted and went onto the bike with relative ease.
The bike started first prod of the starter :) and sounded mean. Not as loud as I was expecting and running slightly rough, The tank wasn't on so I covered the inlet for the vacuum hose to the fuel tap and it ran as smooth as butter. The tickover was adjusted and its bopping away at about 800rpm now.
And the note from the exhaust is completely different from behind the bike. The muted burble from the seat is a raucus roar from behind. :)
Once the engine was warmed and the oil and toot burned off the exhaust, the engine oil was dropped and it was filled with Castrol Race T4 oil. The sump plug was wired and the bottom fairing re-attached.
The steering lock stops were extended with rubber bushes glued on the end and its now ended up perfect.
The choke cable was attached to the handlebars so it looks sweet for scrutineering. The rear caliper was lock wired along with the fronts. The radiator cap was also lockwired.
A full brake bleed was done and now we have some stonking brakes.
Numbers went on and the bike assembly stage was now FINISHED! :)
On to set up...

Cracking work Carl.
By this time it was close to midnight and some late night texts to Chris on standard settings for a Penske were requested (sorry about that Chris :) )
I'd had a good play with the front to get some baseline settings and they felt pretty good. As they're one off forks, the settings wont mean much so I'll leave them for next week when I have more info.
The rear Penske was adjusted to standard settings and when tried had too much damping so both compression and rebound were backed off and the spring preload increased.
Then it was on to setting the sag. This was done on the drive next to the pond and we had to be careful not to stand on the dozen frogs that were now hopping around all over the place. :)
The initial settings saw the static sag at 20mm and the rider sag at 60mm. A Quick couple of turns on the preload spring and this was reduced to 5mm and 40mm respectively.
This perfectly matched the front and the bike now feels very, very plush.
Once I've had a chance to ride it around the paddock this afternoon I'll be able to tweak it a little more but I'm confident enough to do first practice tomorrow on these settings.
Just jetting to sort out now after the initial stab in the dark and we'll be ready.
Pics coming in about an hour (if I can get them to upload)
Just a quick couple of lines to thank EVERYONE who was involved in getting to this stage! Its been a huge team effort and special thanks go to Mr YC and his folks for letting this happen in Halifax. Much appreciated! You can defo have a session at Leeming on it to test your forks and other work.
Now, lets RACE!
:D

Problem #473. The special heat proof tape I put inside the fairing to protect it...
... Isn't and has melted all over the exhaust!

ewwwwwwww, well now its exhaust wrap:rolleyes:
Which reminds me, still need to get some for the rear dowpipe on the Raptor to stop it boiling shock oil.
Good luck with the race. Must say bucket looks gooooooood:smt003

Absolutely!
I cant upload the photos from my phone. They're huge! :-)
Full update Monday.
Just had a chance to grab a couple of test laps! Whoohoo! Apart from a splutter at half throttle (or mid revs. To be decided) its fantastic!
Good luck this weekend, it's nice to see a project come together successfully in such a short time.

The bike was looking good. How did you get on? I got a bit lost so only saw your last race.
So what's this about nine places up from the starting grid. Not three bad.
There are weekends, Great weekends and Epics.
This, was most certainly and EPIC :@)
I've got over 100 photos to resize and three frantic days of mayhem to write up so this take a while but I have to say that was one of the best weekends of my life :)
Just back on Scotland after dropping the bike of in Newcastle
Hopefully I'll have it done by 3am unless I collapse first...

Carl will be along with the write up soon but here is my contribution.
What a f*)(*)&)(*()*&%^&*(^&*()%&**"(")£&£&£**&in brilliant weekend!
And bloody hell that boy can ride!
Sorry for the delay. I woke up at 2 this morning with my fingers still on the keyboard and 379 pages of the letter T :)
So, Did we have a good weekend? Oh, I think it will go down in legend :)
Friday morning we had a chance for the last tinkerings and the numbers were finally on...
Lightning The Wonderbucket ready (we thought) for action!...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin001.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin002.jpg
A bit of (allegedly) heat proof tape was added to protect the fairing which immediately melted and stuck to the exhaust as soon as the engine was fired :) Won't be buying that again then! :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin003.jpg
This was replaced with some other stuff I had in the garage.
and the Van packing commences...
There's method in this madness and all of that will go in the van...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin004.jpg
Honest..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin007.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/minitwin009.jpg
Toby the Pit Bitch arrived and off we headed for an adventure!
And what an adventure it was!
Time lapse two hours later and we are in Bonny and very windy Scotland setting up and emptying out the enormous content of the van..
My Dad was in charge of filling the 4 water barrels that would hold the awning to the planet..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini001.jpg
and Lightning gets his first sniff of the track..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini1.jpg
While we fought with the Awning of doom!...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini2.jpg
I had a quick chat with "race control" and she said it was OK to give the bike a quick once (or twice) up the straight to see where we were on the jetting so Stig's younger, more handome brother took it oot for a whizz..
Some say He ate all the pies! Some say he now prefers Blue! All we know is, there was about to be the Buckets first run!...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini3.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini4.jpg
and it wasn't good! :) He was farting and spluttering in the mid range and wouldn't pull on half throttle.
So off came the tank and some changes were made. A quick phone call to YC and the diagnosis was that the mains were too small as it came off the needle. By Jove he was right.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini5.jpg
and then we met John! John is the founder of the Lighning the Wonderbucket fan club :) right there, right then :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini6.jpg
followed by the carbs...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini7.jpg
Mains were changed to the only bigger ones we had and the needle was dropped back to two from top. It was the only option we had.
Another run followed and that wasn't any better.
So off came the carbs again and the needles were returned to setting 3 and the mains changed back to 152.5 followed by the CV rubbers beings sealed with butter (which didn't work) and some duct tape placed over the air filter to try and get it somewhere close.
And that was it. The camp was finshed and the we had time to relax before the next days adrenaline fix. The bike would now go out for first practice as it was.
We found out that we'd packed the wrong kettle and this one was going to be a challenge if Guy Martin popped round for a cuppa!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini8.jpg
Then I decided to Dremmel off a but more fariing so I could actually use the rear brake (which turned out the be a waste of time as I never touched it for the entire weekend :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini9.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini10.jpg
and we then had a celebratory Scottish herbal remedy know to cure thirst!..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini11.jpg
Toby set up his little castle in the field next to the van! Its a good job he's small and we had the luxury of the back of Iveco Hilton..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini13.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini14.jpg
A lot more herbalk remedyb was (hIC!) consumed once Lighting had PASSED SCRUTINEERING!
:)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini12.jpg
Then we passed out!
To be continued...
RACE DAY!
First order of call was to add some sponsors names to the faring...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini15.jpg
and we ran out of space! :)
at 8.40 we had to head up to Riders briefing where we met up with Tony 252 eating WEETABIX! we didn't have a chance! Everyone knows Weetabix are performing enhancing drugs! :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini16.jpg
Riders briefing covering the usual "Try not to kill anone!" and once over it was back to prep the bike and get things organised. We were practice 5.
On went the tyre warmers..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini17.jpg
and then it was time to head out for the first time..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini18.jpg
Let first practice begin!
15 minutes later and I was back with a still poorly Bucket.
Lunch was consumed whilst we decided what to do. Toby went on a jet hunt and 30 minutes later came back empty heanded having asked everyone in the pits if they had the right size we needed.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini19.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini20.jpg
So the bike was adjusted with tape again, off came the carbs, the CV rubbers were resealed with grease this time which turned out to be much betetr than Olivio spread and the bike was as good as we were going to get and that was what we had for 2nd practice/Qualifying.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini21.jpg
Then just before 2nd practice it started raining! Oh NO! What to use?
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini22.jpg
as it turned out there wasn't time to change tyres anyway so we went out with the bucket spluttering on dry tyres in the wet to set a qualifying time and hence grid position...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini23.jpg
I qualified with a 1.23.855 which is shocking! as we were 2nd but last on the grid of 35 bikes! Buggerance. But at least I didn't crash!
To be continued...
We had an hour to fix the bucket before first race and the fact my face was hurting from not stopping laughing for 5 hours at the banter wasn't making it any easier!
Lots of tinkering later and it was time to go. This was it! Sh*t or bust!..
Lets do it!
The weather wasn't looking good but the track was dry now.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini26.jpg
and we were on the grid!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini24.jpg
and I must have been very interesting because everyone was looking at me.. or the bucket...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini25.jpg
I have no idea what I said! :)
Warn up lap completed and the Bucket was feeling GOOD!! pulling (relatively) like a train, a small red train, with a Walrus on it! :)
Red light on..... Red Light off..... GOOOOOO!!!!
I got a poor start but at least we were in the game!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini27.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini28.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini29.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini30.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini31.jpg
I finished 14th!! :D :D :D
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini32.jpg
and passed 9 people! ;) lap times were an amazing 1.11.190 which was the same time as I set with a busted knee on my GSXR600! :D Happy days!
and that was with a struggling bucket!
We made a few changes to the suspension (a click of compression and two clicks of rebound and we were ready for race two... But then it rained again and everyone was double guessing what to use tyre wise. Our decision was made for us by then declareing it a dry race. It was on dry tyres on a dry line track.
Still last on the grid I got a much better start and off we went again!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini33.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini34.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini35.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini36.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini37.jpg
I was riding around the outside of anyone I came up behind. I was on fire :)
and finally ran out of people to pass!!!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini38.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini39.jpg
I ended up with a fantastic 10th place! and passed 10 people! :D
Lap time 1.11.22 in the damp conditions was excellent!
Tony 252 was being a nutter on Conti road attacks and half of the race I couldn't race for laughing at him! :)
To be continued.
barwel1992

quality write up :D
with two races over it was time to assess the continuing issues of the Bucket. I'm being kind here because the faring was full of oil, the jetting wasn't perfect, the Akrapovic can was melting and things were niggling.
Happy days though:) We'd finished two races and were still in the running!.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini40.jpg
Isn't it funny to see an SV sized person on an SV...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini41.jpg
The rear was holding up well but It'd be lucky to see anopther day out.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini42.jpg
We set about fixing what was wrong before heading off to get a Chinese Take away and drinking too much beer!.
Toby with his Race weekend Kit... Fits in one pocket!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini43.jpg
Lets get the Party started!
and we drank and laughed the night away until "quite late"...
It was only the next morning when we realised we'd maybe overdone things a bit...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini44.jpg
Then Toby came up with a cure for my Thumb cramp problem. Salty Crisps! and bugger me it works!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini45.jpg
It was time to fix what we could with the bucket before giving it more grief.
Of course, the most important thing was the do the graphics!..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini46.jpg
We were now called team SV650.ORG-AZM :D
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini47.jpg
Now sometime during the night before we'd hooked up Mad Tony 252 with some proper brake pads and suggested that if he got himself some sticky tyres he'd be able to knock 4 seconds off his lap times. We'd offered to fit these for him but he was no where to be seen. A little after 10 he showed up saying he was sorted and had a set of Pirellis and the brake pads in! GOD HELP US! :)
The clutch cover was found to be the source of the oil in the fairing and we decided to wait until after race 1 on Sunday before attacking it. I tightened up the bolts as far as the would go and off we went!
Race 1 Sunday. I'm still on the back of the grid but its dry! and late the night before I changed the gearing to a 15 tooth front sprocket. Time for the adrenaline to wash away the hangover (we're proper sportsmen, we are!)
It was still pretty gloomy so I went with a clear visor. Dark day and a dark visor slows you down because you thing its about to thunder :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini48.jpg
So, race on and were off!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini49.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini50.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini51.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini52.jpg
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini53.jpg
Mad Tony 252 was UNBELIEVABLE and we had no idea he could get any madder! Give and man sticky tyres and he'll use them! Even during the warm up lap! :) I was wetting myself following him round the track!
Another fantastic race but the bike felt slower on the taller gearing.
Turned out it wasn't and I'd just done a lap time of 1.08.634!! Thats the same time I was going balls out on the GSXR600! We were really cooking on gas now! I was faster than 15 people out there now!
To be continued..

how come number 22 has USD's ? thought you wen't allowed to change the forks apart from internals or were they already on the bike (what bike?)
The Bucket was struggling now and we had to do something about it. The faiuring was full of oil again and we had to fix the exhaust before it completely fell off! The exhasut gasses were burning the can away!
First the clutch cover.
It turns out its fibre glass! I didn't know that! and it was warped and with the absence of a sheet of glass and some grinding paste the best we could do was to borrow some instant gasket and bodge it up..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini55.jpg
and get the oil back in without burning your fingers! :)
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini58.jpg
It was then time for the can. We'd burn away so much packing it was dying!.
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini56.jpg
So a bit of aluminium tape should see it till the end of the day..
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini57.jpg
Which, it turned out, wouldn't! :)
One race later...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini60.jpg
We also found a fantastic use for the now defunct Ignition lock holder...
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/min59.jpg
Time for race 2!
And We're off again!!!
Another fantastic race with an absence of photos becasue Toby isn't the best camera man in the world :)
But we had a cracking race and I came 12th! passing 13 People! :D :D :D
Not only that I did it with a lap time of 1.08.27 which is as fast as I ever went on the Gixxer 600! If the damping in the rear shock hand't started to fade with the heat from the rear pipe I'd have gone faster!
What a race. Thats three races now where I haven't been lapped too! :)
And because things were going much quicker we were goiong to get ANOTHER race! Could this get any better?
Team .ORG-AZM, truely were :)
Mad Tony 252 (And its impossible to get over just how brilliantly mad he is!) was now lapping 4 seconds faster on his Sticky tyres and standard suspension! and cam over for some post race analysis and hysterics! We were crying laughing!
http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/mini/mini54.jpg
This was the best weekend ever! :)

think you should stop calling yourself a walrus and go for "killer whale" - great writeup
Time for the last race and it was Sh*t or bust! Last race, brain out! GO
and what a race. The shock on the Bucket was overheating big time and hadn't cooled enough from the previous race so was all over the place! Now I knew how Tony felt! :)
I ended up going neck and neck down the back straight with him, both of us stretching the throttle cables, flat out about a foot apart, looking at each other with tears of laughter rolling down our faces, with him tooting his horn! The man is a star! :D :D :D
I caught and passed a lot of people and then got repassed by one of them on a 400 who's misfire had cleared up! I chased and chased him but couldn't catch him with the Penske going off. In a desperate bid I took Pates corner flat out (which is crazy on a bucking Bucket) leaving a huge black Gary McCoy stylee black stripe right round the corner. I truely was on the limit. Actually I was passed the limit and won't be doing it again for a while! :)
Thankfully Darren takes over with the photos and This is at railway bend and I'm chasing hard...
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k164/DarrenStewartTait/DSCF0003-35.jpg
After two laps of being held up I thought sod it and rode round the outside of both of them at once! :)

... this happend a lot during the weekend! :D
Really pushing it into Railway on the limits of the brakes...

and desperately trying to catch the guy on the white 400!..
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k164/DarrenStewartTait/DSCF0020-3.jpg
Fantastic race and then only time in the weekend I couldn't catch the guy in front.
Ended up 10th and passed 10 people with a lap time of 1.09.257.
Buzzing wasn't the word!
It was then time to relax, pack the van and say goodbyes to everyone who had made the weekend such a fantastic event!
Sorry I didn't put more in about you Gordon. I'll edit later but I have to get back to work. This is quite a long "Lunch hour"! :)
The van was packed with a lot less care than we did coming and that was the end of a fabulous weekend..

and here's a clip of the start of race one from Toby, who isn't likely to win any Oscars for his film making any time soon...

Brilliant write up Berlin. So inticing and makes me want to start minitwins!!! But I don't think I ever could due to work. From start of June til July I pretty much work every weekend!! :(
Nice to get write ups like this though, makes me feel like I'm there.
how come number 22 has USD's ? thought you wen't allowed to change the forks apart from internals or were they already on the bike (what bike?)
There were various 400's out there too and an RGV250.

love the pic of you going round the out side
that happend on just about every corner :)
Best one of the weekend was a fight with #99 where he took me at the end of the back straight after I'd taken him and I just didn't brake going into the Esses and rode immediately back around the outside of him! :) best pass I've ever made!

hahah didn't notice that. Brilliant write up story
On your second last race (I think) as you were going round the railway bend on the inside, someone on the outside must not have seen you and went to lean in and nearly ended up on top of you :o
I'm pretty sure it was you anyway. I'd only just turned up and it happened just as I got to the track.

No need to mention me mate, glad you had a good weekend as to be honest, and Toby's observation of my smug face may have given this away, I didn't think you would finish a race nevermind top half. Very glad to be proved very wrong. It's sometimes easy to underestimate the spirit of people who race for a hobby and hats off to you both for pulling it out the bag. After I'd shared a few beers with you sat night I felt a right tit for kicking my helmet round the awning and being grumpy with the kids because I'd only finished 5th. The likes of Tony c show us that nobody really gives a **** how many trophies you collect, you've just got to enjoy it, or really, what is the point? So I did and you're right, Sunday was one of the best days racing I've ever had so hats off to Melville and roll on September!!
I've saved this one to last because this one sums up the weekend best!
Cheeks aching with laughing, great banter, great meeting and great fiends
Me and Mad Tony 252 at the end of the carnage... still alive and laughing!

Cool stuff, glad it all seems to be working well (ish) :)
Chris, I hope you're ready for production, because you're going to be busy!
The handling on the SV was spectacular. The forks are faultless! And I mean faultless!
They were five times better than the forks on my Gixxer 600 that had 500+ quids worth of K tech stuff going on in them!
East Fortune is all about handling and the reason I was able to ride around the outside of everyone was down to the stonking handling. You cannot believe how hard I was braking and going into the corners and it was absolutely *perfect*
The rear shock only overheated because we were running lean at the top end and the rear exhaust pipe needs lagging to keep the heat away.
You sir, are a genius!
... and you've just killed off the need for a front end conversion from a different bike! :) you can have way better handling using the standard forks!
You can expect two orders coming in from the boys at the meeting ;)

Whats the spec of the front end carl?

voodoo :)
I suspect you'll need to get your forks, and a cheque, in the post if you want to find out.:)

09-08-10, 02:51 PM
haha me thinks so!
Whats the damage then Chris?
I'm running Racetech 0.95 springs with zero Preload giving 20mm of sag (preload inside each fork and adjustable for 42mm). Rebound cartridge in the right leg and compression cartridge in the left leg.
Voodoo in both. :)
You have so much adjustment you can run from nothing to fully locked in both directions.
... and despite racing to the limits on them in rain and hot sun, they didn't change character *at all* all weekend. Set up took 5 minutes.
Emulators would have changed all over the place all weekend.
Simply stunning.

Time for my serious contribution then.
Great weekend was had by all.
Had fantastic fun and learnt alot from Carl about both riding and spannering this weekend and am looking forward to learning more!
High point of the weekend was seeing Tony and Carls grinning mad geordie faces after slugging it out for the first few laps of every race. And bloody hell they can both ride those bikes well! Tony is officially the craziest, most animated and enthusiastic man I've ever met, and loved every minute of it!
Any man who rides round pumping fist in the air tooting their horn on the warm up and cool down laps to celebrate not being lapped is a legend in my eyes.
Was also really good to meet Gordon and his missus, brother (I hold him responsible for my sore head on sunday) and kids. Next time the kids are definately being drafed in for fairing colouring in duty. Also to be mentioned was Tony's daughters phenominal 1:20:06 lap of the paddock on her purple 6 geard race machine (push bike). I expect to see a 1:18 next time though Grace!
I could go on about the high points of the weekend but I'd be here all day, so I'll stop there I recon.
Hopefully in a couple of years I'll be slugging it out in minitwins too, let's see how I get on on the track and give it a stab ey!
Looking forward to the next one.

And I'm pleased to anounce Toby's promotion from Pit Bitch to Pit CREW! :D
Good stuff! And I didnt even have to make a single cuppa!
Oh aye, forgot to say, somehow managed to leave with a set of sticky tyres, a set of conti road attacks tyres (which tony had been racing on) and a new front sprocket. Not bad for a set of brake pads and a tenner.
Lets ignore the fact I lost my last £40 somewhere in the paddock
i'm guessing not much change out of £300
Maxton charge £750 for a full cartridge conversion with compression and rebound
... PLUS VAT!
and you have to adjust theirs by taking the wheel out and adjusting from the bottom. Impossible without a headstock stand.
You can adjust Chris' without a stand at all.

500 with no change then.
C you mean that you don't need a stand to do the adjust on the Chris Voodoo forks?
Edited. No stand required.

And have you ever thought of going into advertising Carl? :-P

It'll do for Leeming and then I'll look for a titanium sleeve.
Barwell, What's on your bike? Maybe do a swap?

At the risk of being "competitive dad" it wasn't Tonys daughter, Grace is mine! To be fair Toby, you'd had a few halfs of shandy by then so your memory might be hazy... Good luck with leeming, post up a report :-) We'll have you on the grid in no time

an ART stubby that wouldn't pass the scrutineers but i do have a full length renegade SS can race use only
but i dont think the acra would fit my link pipe (non spring fit)
Brilliant! :D
18th/19th September for the Melville clan at East Fortune.

I'll try to make this one :thumleft:
Well done all of you. I saw the wonderbucket in the making at YC's while he was doing my fork cartridges and shock. Looked like you were going to have to carry round track last time I saw it with not much time to go! I think saying I would go in fast group if need be at Leeming might not be such a bright idea from sound of your pace!!
and I'll be on full slicks at Leeming! ;)
Bring on the Big Boys!
Unless Dave used the "R" word then I'll be on "W"s :)

Sorry I meant Gordon! Whoops. It's the excitement
1) Correct jets ordered and should be in by Leeming. (155's and 157.5's)
2) Can successfully stubbied.
3) Blue wheels for wets now in for powder coating (silver).
Just the clutch cover to do and all the problems should be fixed :)

Hmm a titanium akra for a carbon one?
I've got a rather short stubby that might work? the inlet funnel is dented on the inside though. Just thought I'd mention as that carbon looks swish heh.
Awesome writeup btw, you have set the standard now, everyone is going to expect these reports :) really enjoyed reading especially accompanied by pictures!
How short? :)
I'm only going to kill the Carbon one of I keep using it for racing and if yours is dented it doesn't matter, I'll probably dent it more :)
Any Pics?

only a long shot of it I'm afraid, did have some closer ones when I'd done it but can't find them.
no worries if not though, just a thought.
edit: ah heres a slightly better one, http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/4675863532/lightbox/
can take more if you would like anyhow as I ride it to work and have a camera phone. YC has seen it (well its been on the bike when he has been spannering it) if you wanted a second opinion.
Thanks, I'm tempted and I'm not saying no, but I'm seriously limited on noise. After shelling out £500 for a weekends racing, I'd be gutted to find out I was over the limit somewhere.
I'll see how this goes at Leeming then get back in touch. If it had been 4" longer I'd have swapped no problem.

Good luck with the next race, really enjoyed the re-build and race report. I saw the bucket on YCs drive when I was there last so seeing the transformation now is cool :-)

whats the limit C?
105 dB?
Depends on the track but yes, its usually 105 dB. If I want to do a test day some tracks limit it to 95 dB
Just got my results up on Mylaps and my qualifying lap speed was 66.973 mph.
Race speed: 82.262 mph :)
That's confirmation that I'm faster on an SV650 than I was on my 600! :)
My best 600 average lap speed was 81.643 mph!
Whoohoo!

not sure if you saw my post, i have a full length renegade SS can how much money + the can would you want for the akra
and how would i mount it as i have no spring loops on my link pipe ?
if you dont fancy it dont worry :)
I'd rather stay with akrapovic as I'm very nearly there with the jetting. I don't really fancy starting all over again and it'd have to be compatible with the springs too.
Thanks for the offer though. :)

Next update!
Poxy Blue wet wheels now sandblasted and I'll be spraying them with clear laquer to keep that nice silver effect.
...and they'll never look chipped if they're bare metal look :)
C
Great right up. Nice work.
One question, how ****ed would you be if you were to go out in the wet on something like an Avon Storm and everyone else was on full wets?
P.S. I managed to extract some information about the forks from YC this weekend. ;)
Struggling to remember what exactly though. :(
Actually, in wet but ndrying conditions, sports tourers would be better than Wets. Wets melt if the track gets too dry but not dry enough for dry tyres and at £170 a rear it can get quite expensive if you have three "drying track" races in a weekend! :)
In those transitional conditions, Sports touring tyres are the ones to have.
In "wet" wet conditions, there's absolutely no contest! Wets will out perform sports tourers by factors of ten! :)
You can race as hard on full wets in the wet as you can on Sports tourers in the dry :)

There's no limits to how many sets of tyres on wheels you can take to a weekend is there?
Also, have you seen many people have coming togethers on track at weekends? Is it a common thing?
Its probably the most common reason for people coming off. I saw two incidents in my races at the weekend where someone brought someone else off (and another one may have been a handy excuse to save face :) )
Sometimes two bikes go down, sometimes only one... and if its in the first corner, sometimes a lot more. :)
I saw it a few times in the 600's too.
All part of racing though.
You can have as many sets of tyres as you like for the weekend but at £270 a pair you'd better have deep pockets!!

I see more people making mistakes on their own rather than crashing into people!
Except as Berlin says - 1st corner, lst lap. The trick is to qualify on the front row and then get the holeshot   Still waiting for that one....

very impressive video that! and some great footage of the bucket at 10.12 ;-)
Strange. I never realised it could go that fast.
It'll be going faster still next week. The new jets have arrived so the tape can come off the airbox :)
And you MUST be slow if you think that's fast! Its in slow motion! :D
C
So, arrived in Newcastle this afternoon at 3pm and set about sorting the bits that need sorting.
First up was the jetting change. I've now fitted 155 mains and taken the tape off the air box. Hopefully now its running right.
Next up was to fit the stubby Akra can and its looks goooooood! Sounds even better!
Then it was on to balancing the carbs. Turns out they were MILES out and after backing the adjuster as far out as it'd go they were spot on. A quick drip of locktite and the were done.
Tank back on and bike back together, it was on to wheels. The bare sandblasted wheels that used to be blue are now bare metal and I decided just to give them a quick coat of clear laquer for the weekend as I don't know what colour they'll end up being yet.
It also pays to check that your wheels are actually round and not like a pair of fifty pence pieces before you spend money on having them sand blasted. The front has seen better days and has two buckles in it (which probably happend at the same time the forks were bent!)
Anyway, wets and discs went back onto those and then it was on to the dries. Wheels out of bike, Supercorsas off and Slicks on.
Van packed for the weekend and I've just arrived back in Yorkshire now! Another 9 hour bike fixing shift... Done!
Roll on Saturday! :)
