and in place...

http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/painting99.jpg

I've figured out a much better way of putting them on now so the second one will be much better.

When it said "warm up to forms shapes", I put it in the oven for 4 minutes at 80 degrees and this was far too hot/too long and the glue shrank away from the edges slightly. I've also worked out a way of putting the screw holes in after its fitted to the seat which is a lot easier.

More soon...

and coincidentally the 100th photo in the painting section...

The Belly pan needs a quick set of number boards sprayed on and then a clear laquer over the carbon fibre and that'll be ready too.

See that big Fork shaped hole... that's the last bit :D

Light at the end of the tunnel...

MOT and the required gear will be less than £100.

You should enter a unicycle competition with the bike like that ;)

A Little bit of video for you (http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/SV650test.avi) :D

Turn those speakers up LOUD!

He/She Lives!

Not sure if I've routed the throttle cable wrong or taking the thermostat out has chaged the settings but its ticking over at 3K now but its a minor problem. :)

Oh, and thats reving to 7 K. Its too loud to take it higher. Even that hurts! :D

Oooooo, niiiiiice sound from that zorst....I see what you mean about high tick over, almost sounds like a V4 idling

Thanks dude!

Problem solved. It was the rear throttle body linkage hanging up on the petrol dran pipe.

Purring like a tiger now :D

My ears are ringing, I can't wait to hear it flat out down the straight.

Turns out that Halfords (yes, there's that word again) Petrol proof laquer is about as petrol proof as nail varnish is to acetone!

I'm going to have to t-cut the whole tank! :smt013

Just DON'T Use Halfords stuff!

This photo would proably win the "least interesting picture of the year" award but its all progress.

White and Orange already finished and now masked off and number boards
sprayed on the belly pan.

http://www.corporateflyfishing.com/images/minitwin/painting103.jpg

Juts got to give it 30 minutes to dry, rip the masking off then give the whole thing a coat of clear coat and thats the painting done!

Then I can get onto little finishing touches, although I was in the garage till 11 last night so most of those are done too :)

It looks like I'll have to do a few "Adjustments" to the fairing mounts as they are a little bit stressed in places but it's not a big job. A bend here, a cut there.

And we're on the home straight...

This is the mangled/fixed side. the other side looks much better. There's something very sexy about Carbon fibre! Even if it is so thin you can't fill it.

Berlin
19-03-11, 05:53 PM
The Inimitable Mr Smith popped round and lent an extra pair of hands and the belly pan went on.

Once we'd realised the fairing mounts are all too long and need to be cut down, things went very smoothly.

Bodywork in roughly the right position. We couldn't do any more as I need to check learance for the handlebars and the forks aren't coming till Wednesday to it'll be thursday before I can wheel him out for a final photo shoot.

Its all got to come back off now to allow tinkering :)

Busy day yesterday. I managed to sort out all of the odds and sods that needed doing. The race HQ now has a supply of teabags, the tyre warmers are OK, I sewed up the loose threads on my race gloves (that saw three big offs last year and are still good as gold) Cleaned the flies off my helmet. and sorted through the spares dept. I never knew I had so many handlebars!

Today the most important part of all will be going on... The horn :)

and the battery on the van has gone so that might take the money that was supposed to pay for entries to Elvington, unless I can get a cheapy from the scrappy. :(

2 days to forks 6 days to Track :D

Berlin
23-03-11, 01:11 PM
That would be nice, can you ask them for me?

OK, potential problem...

I've done a whopping 100 meters on it and unfortunately, I have no rear suspension.

I changed the rear spring to that recommended by Ohlins and ... I can't compress it! Its at minimum preload and it's still pretty much as if I had a straight rod in there instead of a shock.

Static sag.. Erm No

Rider sag... Er, no!

This may well ******** things up as I'm never going to be able to get another one from Ohlins in time for the weekend!!

More soon.

Oh, and the fairing is mounting up nicely! :)

Berlin
23-03-11, 01:16 PM
Cherrrr-ist I'm stupid sometimes! :)

I wound the rebound and compression damping right in earlier on ready to cound them back out and it effectvely locked the shock.

DOH! :)

Now fixed :)

front Sag
static 30mm
Rider 37mm

Rear sag
Static 10mm
Rider 50 mm

That'll do me :) No adjustments required until I'm on the track.

Voodoo Fork settings... Top secret ;)

Rear Ohlins settings std. 330mm ride height (but I've lifted the tail unit to put my weight on the front. Its high! I'm 6'1" and I'm on tippy toes!).
I'll be starting at the std 12 clicks of compression and 13 clicks of rebound and ramping them up from there.

Right, time to clear up! This will take a while! :)

Once you switch the bike on and get it hot there's a lot of smoke but this gives you the chance to see where the hot air is going when you're sitting in the holding area and on the start line. There's an amazing amount gets funnelled through the hole in the swinging arm right past the shock! No wonder it overheats! Hopefully this'll stop it going off like the Penske did in race 3 last year.

Not that i should be helping a competitor or owt but............

I would go for front, 25 static, rider 35. Rear 12 static 35 rider. You want the front and rear to drop in equal amounts to keep the bikes balance.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to say i'm wrong, so take it or leave it mate. ;)

Berlin
24-03-11, 05:52 PM
Cheers Toot! Much appreciated. I don't think I'm going to be able to get those settings on the rear. If I go any less on the rider sag I'll have no static sag at all. 35 rider sag is possible though.

I'll give them a blast on Sunday at EF.

We're back and I'm pleased to say in one piece! I didn't crash! I tried, but didn't!

So the paintwork is still in one piece :)

Thats not so say there weren't "issues" diring the day becasue there were. quite a few.

1) I'm not as impressed with Performance Friction pads as I thought I'd be. They may well be coming out and others going in. For £100 a set I was expecting a a lot more!
2) The gear linkage fell off at the end of the straight. As I was trying to go down the box for the hairpin at the end I suddenly realised there was no lever :) Turns out Harris rearset linkages need two lock nuts :)
3) I've got an irritating FI fault and I'll be tracking this down this week. Three times the bike cut out and my first guess is a dodgy bypass for the side stand switch. Which is actually up in the nose cone somewhere. Can someone please exlain why my rev counder needle goes to 7K when I switch the ignition on for about 3 seconds before dropping back to zero? It also did 10K then 7K then back to zero. Weird.
4) the suspension needs a bit of jiggery pokery. But its nearly there. amazingly, despite returning the rear settinngs to std, I ended up exactly where the previous owner had them!
5) I had to *lower* the rearsets at the end of the day to try and get my knee down! It sits so tall I can't reach the ground with me knee :)

All in all exactly what a shakedown day is for and the bike was running extremely comfortable 1.13 laps when it did make it to warm tyre stage without a red flag (oh, we dozend of those) and without breaking down. We even got red flagged on session before we'd got on the track! Now thats a first! :)

Oh, and my Sv wheelies on power (without pulling on the bars) in first and second! Thats good! Very good! :D Bit of a surprise finding out though.

Andy (bless him) is officially fired as team photographer! Despite a full day of mayhem, action and carnage... he came up with these..

sounds like you are missing a permanent live supply to the instrument cluster if your rev needle is going up to 7K when you switch it on. Normally only does this when you reconnect the battery.

aha, then that might be what it is then. It goes to 7K (and once to 10k then 7 k) the first time it's been turned off for a while (say between races, but then doesn't do it if the bike is switched off for say 30 seconds or a minute, then turned back on.

Any idea which wire should be permanently live? does it natter if the bike is stored for extended periods of time? Does it indeed matter that it keeps going to 7 K on start up?

K5 and it should be noted that none of the wiring is now where it used to be :0 everything is under the clocks inc the ECU. So don't say "just check under the seat" becasue the only thing under the seat is fresh air :)

ah I see. That'll be the reason there's a wire missing then ;-), been there, done that myself.

From what I can see on the wiring diagram, it should be a red/white wire that runs from the instrument cluster to both the fuel system fuse, one side of the fuel pump relay and the ECM module connector.

Cheers Flymo, I've got a manual here. I'll have a shuftie at it in there. But wiring diagrams are not my strong point :0 it' kisy like looking at a plate of spagetti!

OK, FI Fault diagnosed.
C41- Fuel pump relay. So wire checking in progress.

... now I know where the fuel relay is supposed to be but just finding it might be a challenge :)

funny you should mention that, isnt that on the same part of the loom as your missing wire?

OK, progress.

I've had the relay out and tested it and its OK, the bike starts fine and runs fine (doesn't it always with intermittent faults?)

if I turn on the ingition in dealer mode with the kill switch off it comes up as C41. if I turn the ignition on in dealer mode with the kill switch on - No fault.

So I'm presuming the Kill switch is wired to kill the feed to the fuel pump relay.

What voltage should I be getting across the relay control wires in normal circumstances?

There are also several wires cut from the loom at the back of the clocks. these are:

Orange/red with green bands
Pink/White with green bands
Thin Black
Yellow
pale green
and one of the Black and white ones with green bands.

Half of the display is not working on the LCD (some vertical bars in the mileage etc)

Does this sound about right?
