Many people believe that alcohol kills brain cells (neurons). This is true of pure alcohol but not for the diluted stuff we drink in Wine, beers and moderate spirits.

An average brain has 100 billion neurons.

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history:

Spades - King DavidHearts - Charlemagne Clubs -Alexander the GreatDiamonds - JuliusCaesar

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes.
When you pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on. Hence the phrase......... 'goodnight,
sleep tight.'

It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law
with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.

Many years ago in England , pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. 'Wet your whistle' is the phrase inspired by this practice.

Pigeons produce milk to feed their young.

If you wondered how I stumbled onto this, yesterday on the way back from a training course I almost tripping over a pigeon I asked a friend 'why are there loads of pigeons in towns and most of the year?'
He answered in a very learned man way, 'Many reasons but did you know both parents make their young milk. I think it's called crop milk, a bit like cottage cheese. Plus unlike many other birds, pigeons don't see humans as a massive threat. That and they breed like rats!'
After a quick Google, I was amazed to find they do produce this stuff.

NOTE: If you're squeamish & eating your breakfast or do not want to be put off eating your dinner don't read on.

I wonder if it'd be practical to milk them? Yields are going to be a bit less than a good dairy cow but then they'll be a bit cheaper to get in the first place.

Going to need a really small milking stool though

A tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot repair itself

9/10 of all living things live in the Ocean

If you get into the bottom of a well or a tall chimney and look up, you can see stars, even in the middle of the day

For every extra kilogram carried on a space flight, 530kg of excess fuel are needed at lift-off

sorry after a govermentally review into manning and cost levels during the olympic games these figures are no longer acurate

there will be 12 police on duty all day reducing to 9 at night, a third will be dealing with the greater london area while the others will indeed be dealing with the games
we have judged that these will be suitable as front line assets as
we are backing them up with the top 3 neighbourhood watch schemes, a dog, 300,000 extra speed cameras and some illegal imigrants who we didnt bother to check there visa entitlements, as extra precautions we are making sure the illegals can still claim full benifits as were paying them cash in hand at twice the rate of a proper police person

Hence they both appear to be the same size.

Interesting that, isn't it?

There are estimated to be between 20,000 and 25,000 human protein-coding genes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene).

Surprisingly, the number of human genes is less than two times greater than that of many much simpler organisms, such as the roundworm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caenorhabditis_elegans) and the fruit fly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drosophila_melanogaster). However, a larger proportion of human genes are related to central nervous system and especially brain development.

okay ..here goes...someone correct me if Im wrong
They are raising the speed limits from 70 to 80...yes
thats an increase of (calculator) say 12.5% in speed
crash energy (the forces you experience) is not linear - so does not go up 12.5%
crash energy is exponential and will increase 400%
This applies to all speed increases from 10 to 20, from 20 to 30, from 30 to 40 etc
now you are more educated it is easier to understand speed enforcement as every mph counts

shoot me down if my sums are wrong - sure this is correct

Yep, you need to do your sums again!

Kinetic energy of a moving body = 1/2 x mass x velocity (squared)

Therefore if a 1000kg car increases from 70 to 80 its energy increases from
484 KJ to 632 KJ that is an increase of 31% not 400%.

And made with an extract of cocoa plant which is also the active consituent of cocaine

Following on from that, Coca Cola is actually a free by-product. Original Coka-Cola contained Cocain which is why it was so popular and "refreshing". They eventually took the cocain out and replaced it with Cafeine. The Cocain is now sold to the pharmaceutical industry and more than covers the cost of producing Coca Cola So everyhting is profit from its sale. This explains why it is so much more popular than other drinks. Huge mareting budgets are available due to the profit levels.

Its also interesting that the abreviation of Coca Cola has a K in it when the full version doesn't.

A VIDEO of the female brain during org@sm proves it is far too complicated to be bothered with.

The animated scan showed more than three areas of the brain were involved at different times, leading millions of men to shake their heads and say 'nah'.

Researchers found that the org@sm starts in the frontal cortex before moving on to the nucleus accumbens and then reaching its peak in the hypothalmus, by which point a normal man should have finished and be well on his way to the lavatory.

Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute for Studies, said: "I completely lost track of it half way through. It was like watching a David Lynch film.

"How are we supposed to remember 'nucleus accumbens' never mind asking if her oxytocin has reached its optimum level?"

Stephen Malley, from Guildford, said: "Not that I care in the slightest, but if a woman really wants to have an org@sm with me then it'll have to be a proper, old fashioned one with none of your fancy brain parts that are just there for show."

Bill McKay, from Hatfield said: "I thought they had them in their vag1nas? The same way that I have mine in my pen1s.

"If it can all be kept in the vag1na area then I can probably cope with that, but if bits of it are going to be happening in her brain then I'm going to get all confused.

"And then eventually I'll just give up and go and watch television.

"As usual."

Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).

Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showing"the fear and folly of nuclear weapons." It starts really slow — if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so — but the buildup becomes overwhelming.
